Dear Bee. April 5. Mr and Mrs Wilding entertained a numbers of friends at “Fownhope,” Opawa, on Saturday, tennis being the principle attraction, under the name of ■'Opawa v. the world.” The Opawa players included Mrs Walter Ollivier, the Misses Wilding. Cornelius. Anderson (2), Messrs. Wilding, and Anderson, Dr. Finch and Rev. Bromley Cocks. ‘-'The world” was represented by the Misses Julius (2), Devenish-Meares, Symes end Campbell, Messrs. Aitken, Boulnois, Borthwick, Colonel Bauehop, and Dr. Ulrich. The match resulted in a win for the world. Among the guests were Mr and Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes, Professor and Mrs Blunt, Mrs Finch, Dr. and Mrs Chilton, Mrs Campbell, Mrs A. Anderson, Mr and Mrs CoKham, Mrs Marciel, Mr and Mrs Lawrence, Mr and Mrs W. A. Day, Dr. and Mrs Talbot, Mrs J. and Miss Anderson, the Missea Denniston, Prins. Kitson, Devenish-Meares, Nancarrow, Todhuntcr, Bourne. Burns. Poulton.

Mrs and Miss Merton, Park Terrace, gave a farewell tea for Miss Nancarrow before her marriage, which takes place •t Easter. Scraps of quotations which had to be put together, formed the funof the afternoon. Miss Bell Kitson was the most successful, and won the prize. There was a delicious afternoon tea and some very excellent music. Mrs Merton wore a black voile skirt and white laee blouse; Miss Merton, pretty white silk; Miss G. Merton, white muslin. • Among those present were the Misses Nancarrow, Stead, Moore, V. Campbell, Cook, Harley, Moreland, M. Denniston, Russell, Anderson, Mating, Hill, Burns, Murray-Ayns-ley, Mills, Wilkin, and Kitson. Mrs F. Graham had a croquet party this week, which was much enjoyed both by players and onlookers. Some of those present were Mrs Guthrie Moore, Mrs Mcßride, Mrs F. W. Thompson, Mrs Kohn, Mrs Seeretan. Mrs Staveley. Given fine weather, the opening of the golf season at the Shirley Links an Saturday will be very pleasant- Lord and Lady’ Plunket will be present. Mrs Vernon has been elected captain of tha Ladies’ Club. Mrs Henry Wood treasurer, and Miss Ainger secretary-. Mr and Mrs A. E. G- Rhodes hava been to Dunedin in their motor-car. causing quite a small excitement in the smaller townships as they passed through.' The Hon. J. T. and'Mrs Peacock also made a pleasant excursion in their motor between Ashburton and Timam, thus picking the best of the road.
