Dear Bee, February 9. A very jolly little EUCHRE PARTY was given by Mrs \V. A. Parkinson la*t Wednesday evening. There were six tables, and play was kept up until about eleven o’clock, when a dainty supper was served. The party broke up about twelve o’clock, all having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Miss Vida Hunter won the ladies’ first prize, a lovely pair of silver-topped cut glass vases, and Mr Cap’pn carried off the gentlemen’s—a fountain pen. Mrs Parkinson wore a dainty silk blouse, black silk skirt ; Miss Worrall. while velvet blouse. rclicve'l with brad trimmings, dark skirt; Miss Day. blouse of pink silk, fichu of ecru net. black satin skirt, piped: Miss P. Fergerson (Christchurch). Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) THE HAWERA BATHS had a very animated appearance, the occasion being the first swimming carnival for this year. The weather, which looked very threatening all the morning, cleared beautifully towards the afternoon. and except for a few showers about four o’clock, could not have been more enjoyable. The sports were most successful, both financially and in the attendance, the seating accommodation being full both afternoon and evening. Quito a large number of competitors came up from Wanganui, and they won several races, although none of them were able to win the championship from Mr M.
