Dear Bee, January 21. CARDEN PARTY AT MT. EDEN. A delightful “At Home” was given by Professor and Mrs Thomas in honour of the visiting members of the University Senate at their charming residence, Mt. Eden, on Saturday last. The weather looked rather threatening early in the afternoon, and we were afraid we -were in for a downpour, but fortunately escaped with two very light showers, so the guests were able to wander at will through the beautiful grounds. I don’t think 1 have ever seen a more beautifully laid out garden, and it certainly looked its biSt on Saturday, for most of the beds were just a mass of bloom. A most recherche afternoon tea was provided in a quaint little bush house, where one could obtain strawberries, ices and fruit, as well as more substantial viands. A string band gave some capital selections, and; altogether we spent a most delightful time. I’m afraid I cannot describe many of the dresses.
