CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, October 26. We are busy preparing for carnival week, which promises to be unusually full of interest this year. An important event will be the consecration and opening of the finished portion of our Cathedral on Ist November, which happens to be the anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone. We all regret very much the absence of Bishop Julius, who has worked so hard to see the Cathedral completed. There are three people recently removed by death who will also be missed at the opening ceremony—Mr W. D. Wood and Air A. Carrick, both very large contributors, and Mr J. M. Heywood, a consistent church worker for nearly fifty years. A golf match was played at Shirley last week, married ladies v. single. Among the players were Mrs Michael Campbell, Mrs Pyne, Mrs H. Wood, Mrs Reid, .Mis Kettle, Mrs L. Harley, the Aliases Symes, Wilson. Campbell, Al* Williams, and Rutherford, the single ladies winning the match.

Air and Airs C. TI. Croxton celebrated their silver wedding last Friday, and gave a large progressive euchre party to a number of their married friends at

their residence, ‘•Thorpe,” Springfield road, St. Alban’s. They received quAe a number of presents. Among the guests were Mr, Mrs and Miss Winstone, Mr and Mrs Kohn. Mr and Mrs Guthrie Moore, Mrs Whitton (Oamaru), Mr and Mrs Appleby, Mr and Mrs Quane, Mr and Mrs Norton, Mr Frank and Mrs Graham, Mr and Mrs G. Bennett, Mr and Mrs K. B. Bennett, Air and .Mrs I>\ W. Thompson, Mr and Mrs C; Morris. Captain and Mrs Willis, Mr Graves, Mr and Mrs Stringer, Mrs S. Gordon (Wanganui), Mr ami Mrs Coverdale, Air and .Mrs Mcßride, Mr and Mrs Harvey. A delicious supper included a wedding eake of two tiers, richly ornamented, the joint production of Mrs and Miss Mabel Croxton.

DOLLY VALE.
