Dear lice. September 7. We have been favoured with such glorious weather lately, and it is such a treat after the very rough weather that we experienced last month. Lust Friday night A MOST SIU4/ESSFUL ENTERTAINM.ENT was held in tj:-? Opera House, in aid of St. Mary's Church. . There was a large audience, and everyone thorough*

Iy enjoyed the excellent programme submitted. The firsf part of the programme comprised vocal-, itt’ius, all of which were splendid. Those assisting were: Mesdaincs Jacob, Quin, Wrigley, Misses Dingle, Flynn (2), Day, Messrs Paul, Mcorehouse. Butts. After an interval tire well-known farce, “The Area Belle” was staged. Those taking part, in it are to be congratulated on their very successful efforts, their acting being well above the amateur standard. Those who were taking part were: Airs (Dr.) Brown, Mrs Basham. Messrs Belcher, Swinburne and Butts. Amongst the audience 1 noticed: Mrs and Miss AlcLean, Airs A'. .Riddle (Normanby), Airs and Miss Nicholas, Airs Nolan, Mr and Mrs 11. Wilson, Mrs Welsh, Mr ami Airs Koch, Mrs Meek, Mr and Airs Dingle, Aliss White, Airs Buekly, Airs Farrington, Mi-.s Coodland (Normanby)-, Mrs Payne, Mrs Butts. Afiss Q. Glenn (Alanaia). Airs G. Gibson, Mrs and Miss Brett, Miss Hook, Air Liddle, Aliss Dingle, Mrs Fantham, Miss Carey, Air Hunter, etc. We are all looking forward to next AVednesday night, when Air Watkin Mills is to make his appearance in the Opera House. We have all read such gknvjng. accounts of his wonderful talent that, needless to say, we are expecting to have a great treat. .Seats are being rapidly booked, which shows that ha will be greeted with a large audience. Last Saturday night some of the Ifawera men held a meeting, when it was decided that they would give a ball on the 23rd of this month. I Hear it is to be carried out on a very lavish scale, no expense or trouble being spared to make it a thorough success. Needless to say, we are all very excited about it, as it promises to be one of “the” balls of the season. ENA.
