Dear Dee, August 18. As usual the FOOTBALL DANCE. was most enjoyable, and the promoters of it are to be congratulated. Although

there was not such a large attendance as was expected, I think that financially it was quite a success. All enjoyed themselves thoroughly, and voted it one of the nicest dances of the season. The floor was in splendid order. The decorations, which were mostly composed of pungas, flax, etc., were most tastefully; carried out, the stage looking especially; pretty. The music, supplied by' Mrs. Quin (piano), Miss J. Flynn (violin-)', and her brother (cornet), was. as usual, very; good. The supper table was most tastefully arranged with yellow and white bulbs and violets, and set off to advantage the delicious supper which was provided by a capable ladies’ committee. Messrs. R. Page and L. Storey were the secretaries of the ball, and they, with the rest of the committee, are tq be congratulated on their very successful efforts. There were many' pretty dresses worn, and amongst them 1 noticed: Mrs. Koch, black velvet, the corsage brightened with pale blue flowers; Mrs. Stewart (Normanby), dainty white corded silk, veiled with chiffon;; Mrs. Glenn. (Manaia) was wearing black silk. brightened with ecru insertion; Mrs.- I)r. Brown, black silk, profusely trimmed with Mrs. Nicholas, black brocade; Miss Day", soft white silk,numerous frills trimming the skirt, blue bow on corsage; Miss Glenn (Manaia). red silk; Miss White, yellow silk, red flowers brightening ths corsage; Miss Caplen, pasted blue satin, trimmed with lace; Miss E. Winks, red corded silk, trimmings of niching and chiffon; Miss Swan (Wanganui), white silk, tucked and frilled; Miss Riddle, pink flowered delaine, profusely trimmed with green belie ribbon; Miss Blair, white silk, inserted with-ecru lace; Miss Sutton, blue silk ; her sister was wearing creme silk, trimmed with spangled net; Miss Ryan looked very well in white satin, the corsage trimmed with jewelled net ; Miss Winks (Auckland), black silk, the corsage brightened with blue; Miss V. Dingle, sea-green silk, the skirt prettily frilled, and berthe of point lace on corsage; Miss Johnstone, blue silk, trimmed with ecru lace; Miss Nicholas, dainty frock of white silk, prettily tucked and shirred; Miss Stringer, pink satin, tucked and shirred; Miss Livingstone, blue surah -silk, handsomely trimmed with lace; Miss V'.
