On Saturday last the second round of the Golf Championship was played. In the first round. Mr F. Rutledge was leading liv 10, and it seemed almost a certainty that he would win. but Fare Keiha, who was playing splendidly, caught up and won by one stroke. On Tuesday afternoon, a ladies’ bogey match was played, and Miss N. Rutledge won, 2 up. In the ladies’ foursomes, on Friday. Miss Sweet and Miss Matheson were the .winners. LADIES* MATCHES AT WANGANUI. WANGANUI, August 13. A bogey match was played by members or the Ladies’ Golf Club, at the Balgownie links, in perfect weather, on Wednesday afternoon. Miss Earle’s prize for the seniors was won by Miss Maud Lifliton, Mrs 11. Sarjeant being second, and Airs Cleghorn thin!. Miss M. Browne won Mrs Barnicoat’s prize for the juniors, with Mrs AVatt second, and Miss Gertie Allison third. Amongst those on the links wore Mesdames Greig. Sarjeant, AVatt, Greenwood, Dyer, ('leghorn. Palmer. D’Arcy. Clay, Misses White (Auckland), Moore, Montgomerie, Jackson, Allison, Browne, Brabant, Liffiton. Baruicoat, Jones, McLaughlin (Auckland), Anderson, Cowper (2), Knapp, ibid others. BOGEY MATCH AT WANGANUI. WANGANUI, Monday. The usual monthly bogey match was played on the Maroro links on Saturday, a fair number of meiqbers •taking part in it. The “Colonel,” as usual, proved much superior to the majority of his opponents, his victory being very substantial in many cases. Howarth, who came out “all square,” was winner of the senior match, the other places being tilled by Wilding, 3 down, and Lewis and If. Dodgshun, each 4 down. In the junior match Kirton was first with 2 down, Thompson and Johns being a tie for second place with 4 down, ami Dennahey ami Dy mock a tie for third place with 7 down. The juniors also played their first round for Mr R. Williams' trophy, the following players being left, in the competition: Johns, Taylor. Kinton, Donnelley, .1. T. Muir, Dymock, and Thompson. WET J.I NG TON IT EMS. WELLINGTON, August 12. Miss L. James has won the fifth competition for lhe silver putter, played for by the ladies of the Wellington Golf Club, Miss L. Brandon taking second place. Mrs W. Turnbull is continuing her victorious career at golf, her latest achievement being lhe championship of the \Vairarapa Ladies' Golf Club. The runner-up was Miss Bidwill. Last year's winner, Mrs AV. Bidwill, was unable* to compete, which was regretted, as she met Mrs Turnhull in the finals for the Wellington championship, and was only defeated after a hard game. Mrs Turnbull has entered for the Colonial Championship.
