Dear Bee, July 21>. One of the most successful events of this week was the ANNUAL BALL OF THE GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION. Any amount of trouble had been taken with the arrangements, and the hall wa« prettily adorned with photographs ami pictures, interspersed with palms ami ferns. The colours of the association, black and gold, were prominently displayed, and some of the rooms were bowers of yellow wattle. The supper table had fragrant vases of golden narcissi and jonquils, with an effective dash of blaek to eariy out the colour scheme. Alias Maclean wore pale blue brocade with lace berthe; Airs. Firth, blaek erepe de chine, with wide perpendicular insertions of Paris lace; Mrs. Ward, black Orient satin and pale blue belt; Mrs. Bat ham, blaek satin and red roses; Miss Batham, white crepe de soie, elaborately shirred; Miss Sanderson (the taelful and energetic secretary) wore black Roman satin ami a trail of shaded roses; Aliss Kirkcaldie, primrose voile de soie and chiffon; Aliss G. One day last week Alrs..T. Young gave A LARGE TEA. A profusion of Howers gave a delightful spring-like appearance to the charming rooms, and a bevy of girls handed round tea and cakes and other good things. Mrs. A’oung wore white canvas voile, with medallions of lace and a-pale blue-sash; Airs. Tolhurst, black poplin; Airs. Denniston, dark tailor-made costume; Airs. A. Young,-white doth ami pale blue hat Miss Tolhurst, ivory voile. MRS FITCHETT GAVE A LARGE ‘AT HOME” on Wednesday afternoon. Her pretty house was gay with spring Howers, mimosa and narcissi being placed in tv.ry available corner. An excellent musical programme was provided, amongst the singers being Aladame Merz (who sang French and German songs in the most ar-
