METUBN MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA. ANOTHER EASY WIN. BRISBANE, July 23.' Tile weather was bcao.tilniiy tine, and a strong wind was blowing down tue bold when the Hritisiieis played their second mulch agaiiißl Austin aa to-day. The attendance numbered Jdi.tMM Wickham captained ihv Australians, and winning the tues from Morgan, piayed during me bisi ha!t with tue wind. Both sides played with great dash, and the combination was excellent. !• 01 a time neither side had the aavuHiage, tuen the Brinsners were penalised, uud Manning kicked, and following up fust he sniotuercd the retain, and me ball rolled over tue line, Burden failing on it and scored. Redwood failed to add the extra points, and at half time the score stood. Australia 3, Great Britain nil. Un resuming the Hiitishers forced the play, the game becoming very rough, especially Tcwards the finish. During the jd.cy several men were hurt, but none serl.vu.siy. The Australian line was repeatedly threatened by passing rushes by lhe British forwards Then Bush seemed from a scrum, and stalling off all attacks, scored near the corner. Harding failed to add to the score. Shortly afterwards Bush secured again, and di opped a beautiful goal from the ha.f way. Fast play followed, and Morgan marking in front of the posts, Bush kicked another goal, making Great Britain 11 points to Australia's 3. McKinnon kicked oil', and a nice piece ol* passing which followed between Llewellyn, Morgan, and O'Brien resulted in the latter scoring. Harding failed in the shot at goal. Shoitly afterwards Llewellyn scored, and Bush failed to put on the major points. Great Britain, 17; Austra.ia, 3. The game was very fast throughout. ASSOCIATION. NEW SOUTH WALES DEFEAT NEW ZEALAND. DUNEDIN, Monday. About 3000 spectators witnessed the first Association football match between a New Zealand combination and an outside one, New South Wales, which defeated the home team by a goal to nil. New South Wales attacked strongly from the start, and gave lhe New Zealand backs a very warm time defending their goal, White and Clapham being conspicuous by their Line kicking. Tiio game during the whole of the first spell was, from a spectator's point of view', rather uninteresting, and the New Zealand team was kept almost without intermission upon the defensive. In the forward division the New Zealand team was hopelessly outclassed. Upon one or two occasions glimpses ol’ their old form were shown by D. McMillan (centre forward) and Stark (inside left), but upon the whole the New Zea hinders’ attack was very weak. N.S.W. forward rank showed excellent foot work, and great combination, and had very bad luck in not scoring at least two goals. Shots sent in by Medcalfe, Carey, and Moore deserved a bettor fate than to be relentlessly bagged by Sinallboue, aval made to appear very ordinaly efforts. The first spell ended without any score being registered. The second spell was almost a repetition of the first, New South Wales attacking almost the whole time, although the New Zealand forwards did make one or two spasmodic efforts to put their opponents on the defensive. From a throw-in in the New South Wales quarters Medcalfe secured the ball, and dribbling strongly down the field passed out to Moore, who had run round co the left from the centre. Moore, in turn, when getting into New Zealand territory, passed back again to Medcalfe, that player sending the ball on to Waddell, who, from his position at outside right (amidst groat cheering), scored the only goal of the match. Now South Wales gave an excellent display of combination work, but, compared with their almost perfect control of the ball, their shooting certainly seemed unsut.istaci.ury. AUCKLAND SENIOR MATCHES.
