The Sultan of Turkey’s New Yacht.
The new yacht which Abdul Hamid is having built for his personal use in the Elswick yards will be the most luxurious craft that has ever penetrated the recesses of the Golden Horn (remarks “Modern Society”). This yacht, however. will not be used for any serious expedition by the Sultan, who is a shockingly bad sailor, and knows almost as little about the far end of the
Sea of Marmora as lie dues about the Black Sea. I’he yacht will be used principally for conveying the Imperial cor tege between the capital and Yildiz Kiosk, which can lx* reached quite easily by the route. This means of travelling from hi*- palace home to Stamboul is far safer in his eyes than the highway, which has to be guarded by a troop of gendarmerie on the rare occasions on which the Commander of the Faithful enters his metropolis. I'he yacht will also be useful for lending to Royal guests on the rare visits made by them to the Sublime Porte.
