Dear Bee, May 31. , There was a large gathering of CHURCH PEOPLE on May 20, wlien His Excellency the Go vernor opened the School for Girls, which is to be conducted under the nuspiees of the Auckland diocese. The authorities have purchased the residence and grounds at Epsom bdonging to tlie estate of the late Mr. Edwin Basket Ik, which serve admirably for the purpose. The twelfth annual meeting of the Auckland Centre of the ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION was held in the Choral Hall on May 25th, under the presidency of His Worship the Mayor. His Excellency, Lord Ranfurly, presented the certificates and medallions, and delivered an interesting address. An exhibition of roller bandaging was given by the ladies of the central class, and of field ambulance work by members of the Auckland Volunteer Bearer Company, Dr. Knight acting as judge. Mr Jmpett presided at the organ, and rendered two solos. A meed of praise is due to Mr W. Rattray, the indefatigable secretary of the association, for the success achieved since its inception many years ago. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent on Mav 27 by Mrs. Neave’s pupils at her music studio, Symonds street. The occasion was the presentation of certificates to the pupils who were so successful at the last Trinity College examinations. Mrs. J. W. Stewart, in a few well-chosen remarks, congratulated the pupils, and presented the certificates, making special reference to Miss Dot Clark, of Hobsonville, who had obtained first place in honours in the senior division, and was recommended for the higher examination by the examiner; and Miss May Gillman, of Onehunga, who was first in the senior pass list. After the distribution of the certificates (seven honours and six passes) the guests were treated to music and regaled with afternoon tea. TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB DANCE. The annual dance given by the Eden and Epsom Tennis and Croquet Club eventuated at the Federal Hall last week, and was completely successful. Good music, an excellent floor, and a recherche supper combined to make a very enjoyable function. 'The honorary secretary (Mr Alan S. <’.
