NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, April 22. Abbott's Musical Comedy Company paid us a short visit lasi week, and while they were here they staged ‘‘Th? Gaiety (hi I” and ‘ln Town.” The former is full of laughter and fun from the rise to I he fall of Hie curtain, while the scenic properties und wardrobe are

quite new. There is also a specially engaged ballet of lady dancers, together with a strong and efficient orchestra, under Herr Gustave Slapoffski, which makes it doubly attractive. The principal honours fell to Mr Fred H. Graham, in the character of Dr. Montague Brierly, whose natural acting and quaint sayings kept the house in “fits of laughter.” The other parts were well filled, both by the ladies and gentlemen. Amongst the audience I noticed Mrs Quilliam, Miss V. Quilliam, Mrs Fookes, Misses Fookes (3), Miss Dempsey, Miss Corkell, Misses Bedford (2), Mrs Woodward, Mrs Herde, Mrs Teed, Miss Teed, Mrs C. Cock) residence, “Overdale,” last Thursday afternoon, in aid of the Victoria Maori Girls’ School, Auckland, but on account, of the weather it had to be postponed. THE STAR AND TUKAPA FOOTBALL TEA MS held their opening match of the season in the Recreation Ground last Thursday afternoon, and, as usual, the match attracted a large number of spectators, despite the inclemency of the weather, and the sloppy ground, made so by the recent heavy rains. The latter prevented clean football, and good chances to score on both sides, so the game ended in a draw. The Ngaiuotu Gulf Club held their OPENING DAY last Saturday afternoon, and the weather being perfeel, there was a large number of ladies present.
