AUCKLAND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. CITY DEFEAT GRAFTON. WINS FOR PARNELL AND PONSONBY. The third series of the district cricket championships was concluded on Saturday CITY V. GRAFTON. City resumed their innings wanting 19 to equal Grafton's total of 90 in the first innings, with five wickets to fall. Wickets fell quickly, and when Kavauagh, the last man, joined Cossev, seven were wanted to get the lead. Two singles were stolen, ami then Cossey made a splendid hit over the on boundary off Stemson, amid great applause. The uext ball went for a single, and the score was taken to 105 before Ayles caught Cossey. Grafton then treated the spectators to a very bright display of batting. D. Hay and Sloman opened, and 30 was signalled in seven minutes, Magee coming in for a good deal of punishment. Eden, with six wickets down for 46, resumed their pursuit of Parnell’s total (100). Three more wickets fell cheaply, but S. Mills and Baxter made a stand for the last wicket, and took the score to within five of Parnell's total, when R. B. Lusk caught Baxter at point. Woods continued to bat freely, and scon d 77. He was helped by Francis and Walker, the total being 195, or 58 ahead of North Shore. The home team scored 103 for 4 wickets in the second innings, Prime playing sound cricket for 37 not out. The chief scorers for Ponsonby were: Woods 77, Robinson 42, Walker 21, and Francis 12. Warner took five wickets for 41. and Prune took three wickets for 40 JUNIOR MATCHES. In the second grade match Grafton v. Ed< n A. the former won by eight wickets. Eden knocked up 117 runs In their first innings, and declared their innings closed for 79. Grafton’s first innings realised 119, and they got the necessary runs to win for the loss of two wickets. Eden B defeated Ponsonby B by 52 runs. Eden’s grand total was ISO. to which Ponsonby could only reply with 137. The City A v. Ponsonby A match went to the former team, with 1 ve wickets to spare. Ponsonby made 73 in their first innings, and 59 in their second. City's first essay accounted for 58 runs, and in the second innings they put on 84 for five wickets. The cricket championships were continued on Saturday in fine weather. Tararu scored GS against County (Morgan IS. not out. Newton 17, and Powell 13). Creighton took six for 22. County, who played four men short, only put up six rails Newton taking four wickets for 4 runs nnd Darrow two for 2. In their second innings Tararu have six wickets down for 36 runs. Newton being not out with 17 to his credit. City Smith met City Central, the former scoring 39 in their first innings. Gordon took five wickets for 13 runs and Chester four for 12. Central replied with 40 (Chester 18). Pratt took fixe wickets for 15 runs. When play ceased South, In their second Innings, had made 34, of which Belling contributed 18. Gordon took four wickets for 12 runs.

WAIHI MATCHES. WAIHI, November 30. The cup matches in connection with the Waihi Cricket Association were continued on Saturday afternoon, City meeting Suburbs. The former only scored 8, including two extras. Suburbs replied with 112. SOUTHERN MATCHES. WANGANUI, Monday. On Saturday the match Victoria I. v. College 11. was concluded on Victoria Park. College 11., who batted first, were 46 runs behind on the first innings, and scoring only 37, left the Victorias winners, by an innings and 9 runs. Atkinson and Armour batted well for 14 and 16, the others finding the slow wicket too deadly. The bowling of McKenzie, Martin, and Mackay was well ou the spot, and they all came out with good averages. The match College I. v. Britannia was commenced on the College Ground, and began disastrously for Britannia, The latter in their first innings collapsed for 30 runs, not one player reaching double figures. The damage was done by Mawliy, who secured the marvellous average of 9 wickets for 5 runs. College I. responded with 154, Johnson 41. and Empson 48 being top scorers. The match will be concluded next Saturday. WELLINGTON, Monday, Phoenix, playing against Midland, totalled 141 in their first innings— Waters 48, Naughton 26, Brice 23, Bartlett 17, Spraggon 10. Upham took 5 wickets for 38, Stephenson 3 for 28, and Mitchell 2 for 37. With six wickets down Midland ran up 117 runs—HutcKings 39, Hickson 18, Williams 15, Stephenson 15, J. Welbourne 13. Old Boys’ only put up 91 against Wellington—Blaeklock 19, and McGowan 14, being the only double figure men. Wellington’s score stands at 72 for one wicket down.
