Dear Bee, October 1. On Friday afternoon Mrs Greenwood gave A DELIGHTFUL “ADVERTISEMENT TEA”

at her residence in Wickstud-street. Mrs Hughes Johnston won the first prize, a pretty china rose bowl, for guessing the largest number of titles. Miss Dodgshun secured the second prize, a Dresden china flower vase. Mrs Greenwood received her guests in a white silk costume, tucked and trimmed with insertion; Miss Tennant (Marton) wore pale blue. Amongst the guests I noticed Mrs Wray, in a navy blue canvas, banded with black silk braid, cream vest, blaek picture hat with chiffon and feathers; Mrs G. Marshall, navy blue cloth coat and skirt, with white cloth on collar, black and white hat : Mrs H. Sarjeant, blaek tucked voile with Russian blouse, pretty black ehiffon hat with feathers and blaek and white daisies; Mrs John Anderson, pale green tweed piped with a shade of darker green, black hat; Mrs C. Powell, black and white gown with capes banded with cream insertion, black hat with wreath of pink roses, and pale green ribbons; Mrs Patterson, brown cloth with white cloth trimmings, brown felt hat with white felt band and bird: Mrs Arthur Nixon, green-blue tueked canvas with silk and lace vest, hat to match; Mrs F. On Tuesday evening a VERY SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

was held in Christ Church Schoolroom in aid of the Christ Church Club. Songs were contributed by Sirs Hoult, Misses Mcßeth (Christchurch), Griffiths and Baker, Messrs Stevenson, Pownall, Anderson and others. Amongst the audience I noticed Mesdames Christie, Ashcroft, Stevenson. McLean, Palmer (Wellington), Anderson. Hoult, Misses Baker, W. Anderson. Dodgshun. Mcßeth, Pratt, Jones, Messrs R. Stevenson, Lewis, Garrett, Dodgshun, Anderson, Pownall and many others. On Wednesday, September SO, Mrs Barnicoat gave a most DELIGHTFUL DANCE at her charming residence in Keithstreet. Hooper’s Band supplied the music, and extras were played by Miss Stewart (Wellington) and Miss Griffiths. The large drawing-room was used for dancing, and the wide verandah was covered in and converted into a draw-ing-room with numerous easy chairs and sofas. In the dining-room a delicious and dainty supper was laid- The tables were decorated with sprays of quince blossoms and pale pink roses. Mrs Barnicoat received her guests in a black and white striped silk costume with vandykes of blaek insertion on the skirt, and trimmed with lace on corsage, relieved with pale blue velvet, long blue silk accordion-pleated opera coat banded with cream insertion and lace; Miss Barnicoat wore pale pink silk veiled with ac-cordion-pleated grey silk voile with sprays of pink roses; Miss P- Barnicoat, black voile skirt, white silk blouse with insertion and sash of Oriental shaded silk. Amongst the guests I noticed Mrs Gifford Marshall in a stylish gown of cream and black insertion over pink silk, lace berthe on corsatmv Mrs James Watt, pale pink silk with pink chiffon frills on skirt, and corsage draped wnth lace; Mrs Blundell, black silk with sequin net sleeves, pale blue silk chou; Miss Stewart (Wellington), smart frock of white silk veiled with lace and mad* with numerous frills edged with chiffon rucheing, pale pink butterfly bow in coiffure; Miss Griffiths, eau de nil brocade, with lace on corsage; Miss Montgomerie, cream satin with ehiffon trim-
