Nearly all our visitors have returned both North and South, so it is not to be wondered at that WE FEEL A LITTLE DULL now the reaction is setting in, but the weather was most kind, and made everything doubly enjoyable. Before all the hunting people left for their homes Mr Parkinson, the Master of the Christchurch hounds, arranged an “off day. - ’ They met at Darfiehl, at Mr Candy's homestead, and had some capital hunting. Among those following were Lord North, Lady Constance Knox, Captain Campbell. Miss Gerard, Miss Rutherford Mr and Airs Woodroffe. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, Messrs Bond. W. Starkey. G. Palmer. Rutherford (2), Stead, ActonAdams (2), Gerard, etc. On Thursday evening Mr and Mrs A. Appleby entertained a number of their friends at a PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PARTY at Morten's Club Rooms. After cards a dainty supper was served and some songs concluded a charming evening. Among those invited were Mr, Airs and Miss Graham, Mr and Airs P. Lawrie, Mr and Mrs R. Allen, Mrs Kettlcwell, Mr and Mrs F. W. Thompson, Mr and Mrs C. H. Croxton, Mr and Mrs G. Bennett, Mr and Mrs AV. Lake. Mr and Mrs Mcßride, Mr and Mrs I. Gibbs. Mrs and Miss Thomas, Mr and Mrs Cook, Dr. and Mrs Morton Anderson, Mrs and Miss Seeretan, Mr and Mrs Cobham, Mr and Airs J. Wood, Mr and Mi’s J. Fairhurst, Mr and Mrs Kohn. Mr and Mrs Coverdale, and many others, about sixty being present. On Friday Mrs R. D. Thomas, Salis-bury-street, gave a charming EUCHRE PARTY for her daughter, Miss Gladys Thomas, about forty guests being present. The

spring flowers were lovely, especially some very fine wattle. A delicious supper was served. Miss Thomas" art in that direction being well known. Mrs Thomas received in black silk square cut evening dress relieved with yellow on the bodice; Miss G. Thomas, pretty white silk: Miss Heid (Timaru), a lovely gown of white Roman satin simply but prettily made, with angel sleeves of chiffon, ami shirred round the waist; Miss Tolhurst (Wellington), white lace; Misses Denniston, F. Mathias, Hargreaves; E. Denham, in a green gauze, with touches of red; V. Bassett, Preston, in a white Liberty silk, the skirt trimmed with rows of satin ribbon, chiffon herthe and sleeves, and black velvet shoulder straps; Molineaux. Gossett, Nancarrow, M. Thomas, the Misses Louisson, etc.. Miss Louisson winning the first prize, a lovely fan. and Miss M. Louisson the second, a silver hairpin box. Most of the girls wore white. Among the gentlemen were Messrs Davenport and Campbell (H.M.s. Phoebe), W. Day, G. Pascoe, Denniston, E. Stead. D. Garriek (Ceylon), and several more. The Dunedin ladies en route to the Wellington Golf Tournament were in Christchurch for a day or two, and on Thursday, in spite of the rain. met some of our loeal players on the Shirley Links, but it could not lie called play. Among the visitors were Sirs Ogston, Mrs Butterworth. Mrs Allen. Mrs Fergus, Misses Butterworth and Scott. Christchurch players were represented by Mrs Campbeli. ?»fisses Campbell, Cowlishaw, Turnbull and Symes, and these, with Misses Wilson and Julius, left for Wellington in the evening. A most enjoyable AT HOME was given by the Misses * holtnondelev at their residence. Merivale, on Thursday afternoon. It took the form of a celebrity party, about seventy being on view to be guessed. The first prize, won by Mrs Walter Fox. was a little gold pin. with lucky bean. Miss Secretan secured the second. M : ss Cholmondeley were a pretty heliotrope silk blouse tucked and trimmed with insertion. and ' lack voile skirt; Miss A. Cholmondt '. white g’aee blouse, crimson sash, a: . voile skirt. Mrs G. A. X. Tupper, who assisted her sisters in entertaining the guests, wore pale grey Eton costume. Afternoon tea was served in the dining-room. the table looking lovely with violets, primroses and maiden hair fern. Among the guests were Mrs Murray (Geraldine), Mrs Mrrcicl. Mrs C. Morton Anderson, Mrs R. Anderson, Mrs G. Kettlewell, Mrs H. O. D. Mears, and Miss Doris Mears. Mrs G. Bennett. Mrs W. J. Bruce, Mrs Carrington, Mrs C. Beadel, Mrs Sanderson (Hawke’s Bay), Firs Walter Oilivier. Mrs Fox. Misses Graham, Jameson. Wilson. N. Reeves, Heywood, Burnett (Wellington), Gossett, Sceretan. and many others. Mrs J. Gould gave a small luncheon party on Thursday at her residence, Merivale, to meet Lady Ranfurly and Lady Constance Knox. Amongst those invited were Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes. Mrs and .Miss Julius, Mrs Elworthy, MrsW. Bond. Mrs P. Campbell, Mrs Reeves and Mrs Beswick.

The ma ivied ladies of Mrs Waymot. ill’s walking party were invited by the girls to afternoon tea on Saturday at Victoria Park.- About twenty met in the and proceeded to the foot of the hills, when, after a brisk, breezy walk, the caretakers cottage provert a haven of rest, and the delicious tea provided was lunch appreciated. Among those present were Mesdames Wayniouth, (Dr.) Thacker. V. Hargreaves, T. Garrard. K. Garriek r.nd R. E. McDougall, the Misses Wilson (3), Wayniouth, MeClatehie, Fodor. Garforth (2). Mace (2), Mcßeth, Graham, Manning, etc.
