NAPIER.

Dear Bee, August 28. A most interesting GYMNASTIC DISPLAY was given by the pupils of the Girls’ High School at the Garrison Hall on Friday afternoon last week. The girls all wore blue frocks and white sashes, and made a delightful picture. Tho drilling, which was most accurate, consisted of dumb bells and Indian clubs. This was followed by a cymbal dance by

the elder girls, and skipping by the little ones. Musical items were given during the afternoon l.y Misses Bella Pettitt, L. Bennett and E. Smith. Miss Spencer received the guests in a fawn coat, a black skirt and a becoming blaek and white toque; Lady Campbell had a brown dress, a sealskin jacket and a hat to match; Mrs. Hoadley wore bine!:; Miss Headley, dark blue dress, hat to meth; Miss Kathleen Hoadley looked well in green; Miss Kirk, bright blue costume; Mrs. Phniuzyn wore black, handsome black cape and black and while bonnet; Mrs. Stedman, very pretty blue dress, trimmed with red; Miss Shand was in grey, with strappings of black on the skirt and bodice: Mrs. Colerun, black liress. blaek and rid bonnet; Miss Coleman was in grey and white; Mrs. Sutton, black; Miss Sutton, crimson coat and skirt; Miss Gillies, navy blue costume; Mrs. Hansard, grey tweed, black hat. relieved with white; Miss ■Williams also wore grey and white; Mrs. C. McLean, dark blue dress; Mrs. Davidson, green costume, hat to match; Miss Hall looked well in brown, and her hat was trimmed with red; Miss Page had a blue dress and a becoming hat; Mrs. Bowen wore a pretty shade of brown frieze; Miss Mnafarlane’s brown dress was trimmed with velvet of the same shade; .Mrs. F. Williams wore blue, relieved with red; Miss I. Margoliouth, brown and white cloth; Miss Large, pale grey. Mrs. T. Moore gave a DELIGHTFUL EUCHRE PARTY at her residence, Tennyson street, on Friday evening. The hostess wore a very pretty pink blouse, and a blaek skirt; Mrs. Westall looked well in black lace and silk; Mrs. Tylce also wore blaek; Miss Todd, pretty blue silk blouse, blaek skirt; Mrs. Edgar looked well in a blaek and gold costume, which suited her admirably; Mrs. R. B. Smith also had a becoming black dress; Miss 1. nr.in, pale blue blouse, black skirt; Miss Locking, pale green brocade; Miss Goldsmith, sky blue crepe de chine, trimmed with white laee: Miss Westall was in black; Miss Williams, handsome black dress, trimmed with passementerie; Mm. Stedman was in pale green silk, the bodice trimmed with pink chiffon; Miss Humphries was in pink and cream. Amongst the men were Messrs Stedman, Parker, Westall, Broad, Macasscy, Fowler, Bowen, Goldsmith, G. Smith, R. B. Smith and Drs. Alexander and Leahy. The first prizes were won

by Miss Locking and Dr. Leahy, and the booby prizes by Mrs. Westall and Mr. Fowler.

On Saturday, August 22. in splendid weather, a large number of ladies turned out to play for the trophy presented by Miss Chapman for competition by the ladies of the Napier Golf Club. The winning score, made by Miss Davis (Wt—2— 66) was a very creditable one. The second prize, a club presented by Mr. J. T. Cato, was tied for by Mrs. Kawhi (U9 — 2 —67), and Miss Wood (79 —12 —67). The first round for the championship of the Napier Golf Club was played by the men ou the same day. Mr. K. Tareha was first with 94, and Mr. Gordon, with 95, took second place. The Maroro Hoekey Club, Napier, sent a team to Wellington last week to represent them in the hoekey matches nowbeing held there, between teams from all parts of New Zealand. They left on Wednesday, and amongst t!:e representatives were: Mesdames Westall and Peacock, Misses Jardine, Simpson, Goldsmith. Todd, V. Margoliouth, Nevill. Hill, etc.
