Mr Longhurstj a resident, of Tararuroad, Thames, was extremely unfortunate in having his house totally destroyed by fire on Wednesday evening last. It appears a lighted candle had been left near the wall, and by some, means the wall caught fire, resisting their efforts to put it out again. The alarm was first given from the Wakatere, but by the time the fire brigade arrived the place was enveloped in flames, and all they could do was to keep the fire from destroying the next house. Very little of the furniture was saved. The building was insured for £75 and the furniture for £5O. Th». powder magazine was very close to. the scene of the fire, and mauy of the spectators were alarmed for its safety.
