HOCKEY.
United I. met ’Varsity Seniors on Saturday, and after a tough game defeated them by 2 goals to L Barry and Morpeth scored for the winners, and Miller for the losers. The ’Varsity team played a good even game, and it was oa’y the brilliant play of the United backs that saved Lhe match for that team. United B v. Auckland match took place on the latter club's ground, and ended in favour of Auckland by 7 goals to nil. The lasers were outclassed in every depa’-’onent of the game, the winners possessing the advantage in weight and combination. Goals were scored by Speight (3). G. Hill, McCormick, J. Lepine, and W. Lepine. For tee winning forwards Speight and Lepine worked well, but spoilt a good many chances by cfiT-side play. In the backs Brookfield and Broadfoot were the most pwsaiaent. For the lasers the only ones to show form were G. Reid, Whyte and Owen.
