OBITUARY.

Deep regret is felt in Wellington and Canterbury at the death of Airs. Renner, wife of Mr. F. M. Renner, of the staff of the Wellington College.

The Provincial in New Zealand of the Order of Our Lady of Missions, the Rev. Mother St. Theresa, died recently at the Christchurch Afonastery of the Order, after a long illness. Mother St. Theresa, who was born in France, spent twelve years in Deal, England, and was afterwards appointed Provincial of the Order in New Zealand, a position she held during the last ten years. She was a niece of the late Bishop Elloy, of Central Oceanica, the see including Tonga and Samoa, and was cousin of the late Father Hurlin, S.AI., of Fiji. The Rev. Dr. Egan has received cable

Another cf our early colonists passed away at Devonport a few days ago in Mrs Mackenzie, who, with her late husband, Duma -i Alaekenzie, arrived in Auckland 33 years ago in the ship Phoenix, which left Glasgow in command of Captain Brown. Mrs Alaekenzie was well known, both at the Thames and in Auckland. Airs Snath, of Devonport. and Airs J. J. Holland, of this city’, also Airs R. J. Crighton, of Honolulu, are daughters, and Air James Alaekenzie, late of the Postal Department, New Plymouth, and Air J ohn Alaekenzie, of Auckland, are sons of ‘ deceased, who lived to the good old age of 90 years. Airs. Renner—who was only twentyseven years of age— was formerly one of the most distinguished students at Canterbury College, having taken her AI.A. degree with honours. Later on she showed high literary merit,, and was a contributor to several English magazines of repute; some of her articles, together with some poems, were recently published in book form. Airs. Renner wrote tinder her maiden name of Margaret Craig. Every sympathy is accorded to her husband and relations in their bereavement.
