Giles’ College.
The annual distribution of prizes at Mr T. Harle Giles* Business and Training l College took place last week. In opening the proceedings Mr Giles said that he had this year awarded the same kind of prizes as he had always considered a fit reward for merit, viz., a gold medal to the dux of the commercial side, and one to the dux of the classical side, and sliver medals to the dux ot the junior division of the commercial side, and to the next to dux on the classical side. These were the only ordinary prizes. A special medal was given for gymnastics. Mr Giles referred also the excellent and conscientious work done by tho master of the classical side, Mr Maurice R. Keesing, and of the mathematical side, Mr P. H. Watts, whom he thanked especially for the very creditable results arrived at In their departments. The prizes were then allotted to the respective winners. The prize list is as follows:— COMMERCIAL SIDE. Dux of senior division and winner or gold medal: Harold Brassey. CLASSICAL AND MATHEMATICAL SIDE. The following is the examiner’s report as to the work done on the classical and mathematical side of the college: “The result of the examination is most satisfactory. The papers set were of a high and searching character, on tho basis of tho standards for Civil Service and D. and E. teachers’ certificates. The candidates show a clear and intelligent grasp of the various subjects, and have evidently been carefully and thoroughly trained to meet a severe test. I can conscientiously congratulate you and them on the results achieved.”
