ROTORUA.
Dear Bee, W e were must fortunate in our choice of a day for the opening of our bowling green and tennis lawns this season. It was a perfect afternoon and the Sanatorium Grounds were thickly dotted with people, chiefly visitors. Captain Turner, vicepresident, in the absence of Dr. Wohlmann, president, made a short speech, and asked Mrs Crowther (who has presented a trophy to be bowled for) to throw the first jack, when the bowling green was declared open, and in a very short time nine rinks were In use. Tennis, too, found its enthusiasts, but the greatest attention seemed to centred on the bowling green. Last year the afternoon tea was given by the ladies of Rotorua, but this year it was catered for, and did not prove so successful, as the ladies, of course, could not feel so interested. The ladies on the committee, though, did their best with the material that was at hand. The Rotorua Band played in the Rotunda during the afternoon, helping to add to the gaiety of the scene. Great admiration was expressed as to the condition of the grounds, which are truly delightful and improve every year. The next addition is to be a tea kiosk in the gardens, and no doubt will be largely patronised this season.
