Each night of: his all too short season saw the Opqfa House crowded to the doors vtpth an audience that could not hear enough of this great ’cello player. One hardly realises the difficulty of his music when it is accomplished with such perfect ease and grace, qnd the marvellous breadth of tone which he brings out seems io turn the ’cello into a thing of wonder. Jean Gerardy is rewarded for his life-long labours, but only a ■i born musician could play as he plays. Miss Gifford, vocalist, ami Herr Galston, .pianist, were greatly enjoyed, and the programme was one without a blemish. In the audience during the season have been His Excellency • the Governor, Lady Constance Knox, Hons. C. Hill-Trevor and Buller, Lady Russell, the Misses Russell, Lady and Miss Hector, Mrs and Miss Parker, Mr ami Mrs Herries, Mrs Wallis, Mrs and Misjs Stowe. The Ladies’ Hockey Tournament was concluded to-day at Miramar, when the Craven School (Palmerston North) beat the Aorangis (Wellington) by two goals to one. It was a splendid game, and there was wil qxcite.ment and enthusiasm the large number of spectators who went out from town to see the final. The winners played a. fine game and thoroughly deserv-

ed their victory. Great interest hag been taken in the tournament, and hundreds of spectators have been out during the week. Some of those I have noticed on the ground have been Lady Ward, Lady Russell, the Misses Russell, Lady Hector, Dr. and Mrs Hector, Miss Fraser (Palmerston), Mrs A. Duncan, Mrs H.
