WELLINGTON.

Dear Bee, March 27. The large “at home” given by Dr. Elizabeth Mills last Thursday was a very pleasant one. It was given in one of the large reception-rooms at Searl’s Hotel, which was very prettily decorated for the occasion with greenery and flowers, and the tea table, which was weighed down with its burden of tempting things, was artistically arranged with clear glass vases of very early jonquils and greenery. A band played sweet music during the afternoon, being stationed in the hall. The hostess, who was congratulated by all her guests upon her recent marriage, and heartily welcomed as a resident amongst them, was wearing a gown of soft green material, the bodice having a little red silk and cream lace on the corsage, and she wore a black straw and chiffon hat with feathers, and carried a lovely bouquet tied with satin streamers. Her sister, Miss Platts (Dunedin), who was assisting in looking after the wants of the guests, wore a pretty sky blue figured gown, trimmed with white lace, and a hat to match. Among those present I noticed: Mrs. E. W. Mills, Lady Stout, Mrs. and the Misses Hislop, Mrs. and Miss Barron, Mrs. Fell, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. and Miss Fitz Gerald, Mrs. McCarthy, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Buchanan, Mrs. and the Misses Chatfield, Mrs. and Miss Miles, Mrs. and Miss Mclntosh, Mrs. and Miss Wilson, Mrs. Bucholz, Mrs. and Miss Seed, Miss Ashcroft, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. and Miss Blundell, the Misses Skerrett, Miss Harcourt, Miss Wrght and many more.

On the same afternoon Mrs. Duncan gave a very enjoyable little “tea” for young people, at her residence, Fitzherbert Terrace. Tea was prettily laid in the dining-room, the table being decorated with flowers, and spread with an abundance of delicious sandwiches, cakes, sweets, ices, etc. Mrs. Duncan wore a handsome black silk canvas gown trimmed with white; and Miss Duncan was in palest grey crepe and chiffon. Some of those present were: Mr. and Mrs. A. Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. H. Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Burns, Mr. and Mrs. J. Tripe, Mr. and Mrs. Butler, Mr. and Mrs Pearce, and the Misses Brandon, Bell, Harcourt, Higginson, Bawson, Gore, Fitz Gerald, Coleridge, Hislop, Johnston, Medley, and the Messrs Cooper, Johnston, Higginson, Levin. McShane, Coleridge, etc., etc. Mrs. Menzies left Wellington last

Thursday for Canada, where she is going to pay a lengthy-visit. She was accompanied by Mr. Duncan Menzies, her son.

Lady Douglas, Miss M. Douglas, and her niece, .Miss Foster, have left for their trip to England. They are travelling via Vancouver, as so many people are just now, in order to avoid infected ports. Mrs. E. J. Riddiford and Miss Elsie Riddiford have just returned to Wellington after a most delightful trip to England. Miss Norah Riddiford, of Rangitikei. left for England by the Gothic to-day for a short visit.

I hear that Mrs. Levin (England) will probably return with Miss Riddiford in order to be present at the marriage of that young lady to her son, Mr. Bob Levin (Wellington), which will take place shortly after their return.

Among visitors to Wellington lately have been Judge and Mrs. Williams (Dunedin), Judge and Mrs. Denniston and Miss Denniston (Christchurch), Mrs. McCrae (Rangitikei), Miss Rutherford (Wairarapa). and Dr. and Mrs. Andrew (Nelson). OPHELIA.
