NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, — March S A large number of friends and neighbours assembled at St. Andrew’s Hall on Thursday evening to welcome the coming and speed the parting guests upon the occasion of the departure of Mr. J. Strauchon (late Commissioner of Crown Lands. New Plymouth) and his family, and the advent of Mr. McKenzie, who succeeds Mr. Strauchon, with his family. The function took the form of a SOCIAL GATHERING of the clans and their friends and relations, and was a great success. -Many pretty songs were rendered in a pleasing manner during the evening by Mr. Ferry. Miss Mae Diarmid, Miss Nixon, Mrs. Hall, and Mrs. Bacon. An address was presented to Mr. Strauchon by Mr. Doyle, the secretary of the church, tastefully written and illuminated by Mr. J. D. Cairns, and signed by the minister and members of the congregation. Mr. Strauchon feelingly replied, and
