CHRISTCHURCH.
Dear Bee, February 19. The anticipation of the Broughs’ visit has been like a treat in store for a long time, and now each night that goes by is a regret that it is over. I am sure all New Zealanders hope theirs is not a final leave-taking, and that they will come and visit us again some day. The theatre has been crowded, and amongst the numerous audiences have been Judge. Mrs, and the Misses Denniston, the Mayor and Mrs A. E. G. during the afternoon. Indeed, it has become a byword among Mrs Palmer’s friends that should there be a drought at any time, she has only to issue invitations for a garden party. However, a delightful time was spent indoors by those who braved the weather with ping pong, billiards, etc., and a band stationed on the verandah played bright music, while the best of refreshments were served. Mrs Palmer received in a handsome black brocade, black bonnet relieved with white; Mrs G. The summer races at Riccarton on Thursday and Saturday were very enjoyable to racing people, but the attraction of crowds of well-dressed women which one goes to see in November was not there. However, as most of the dresses have already been described, we can. as the Scotch say. “put them past.” Among the visitors were Sir G. and Lady Clifford,

Among those invited were the Misses Rhodes, Macdonald, Ogle, Rose, Clifford. Bourne, Anderson, Campbell, Masters Rhodes. Macdonald. Gould, O'Rorke, Loughnan, Cotterill. Deans, etc. Croquet is still the rage. A tournament has been arranged by Mrs C. H. Croxton, to be played on their lawn. Springfield Road, when a large number have to play off.
