African Marvels.
The native Prime Minister of Uganda states that the Uganda natives have )>aid their taxes for the current year, amounting approximately to £60,000. This includes payments in kind, consisting of five elephants, one zebra, twenty eliini|>anzees, several wart-hogs, water-antelo;ies, porcupines, snakes, and cranes, and numerous monkeys. All these creatures have been received at the Government headquarters at Port Alice. Arab trailers who returned from the Torn border to Mengo on the 3rd inst. state that the Congo Forest dwarfs who visited Sir Harry Johnston in Uganda have now reached Torn. Their friends from the forest came to meet them, and spent several days inspecting the wonderful presents given to them by Sir Harry Johnston. All the dwarfs have declared their intention not to return to the Congo Forest, 'and they play all day in and around the British settlement. They confided to an Arab trailer their intention to proceed overland to greet the Englishmen’s new King, and refused to believe his statement that oceans of salt water intervened.
