The Countess, it will be remembered, is a daughter of the late millionaire Jay Gould, and has an income of £120,000 a year. Since her marriage in May, 1895, she and her husband have spent more than £600,000, and incurred debts to to the amount of £BBO,OOO. Now a canseil de famille has obtained a judicial decision for the appointment of a legal guardian. The sister of the Countess (Miss Helen Gould) will now make it her business to see that she does not exceed her allowance.

So in future the poor Castellanes have to live on £120,000 a year. Isn’t it awful?
