A better enquiry existed this week for standard stocks. Shares in mining companies showed little change, with the exception that Waihi stocks generally were offered at lower rates. Koinata Reefs firmed in price, sales being made up to 3/2 in consequence of news that a very rich body of ore had been struck in the intermediate level, which it is thought will probably assay £5O per ton. During the week ending to-day returns have been reported from 42 dredges, the total yield being 9730'.s lOdwts, or an average of 23ozs per dredge. Local shareholders in the Waitaia G.M.Co. met this week and appointed a committee to look after their interests. Enquiry set in this week for Kaiapoi Woollen shares at £ 6 12/6, but holders did not quote. Another satisfactory return was obtained this month by the New Four-in-Iland Company. I*o tons of ore having yielded £505 17/7. Tributers in the Irene mine. Kuaotunu, obtained £SO from 20 tons of ore.
Waihi Extended shares fell this week until sales were made from 3/6 to 2/9 and 2/10. Consols and Souths were offered at low rates, but buyers held off.
Gold returns for the past three weeks from Auckland mines totalled £42,753 4/3. Talisman Consolidated shares are still in request at 24/, with sales up to 25/.
Very high-grade ore is being obtained from the main stope in the Barrier Reefs mine.
The Imperial mine, Karangahake, has been offered under option.
Insurance shares generally are in request, as high as 76/ being now offered for South British, 6»/ for New Zealand, with sales at 69/, 18/6 for Nationals, and 17/ for Standards. In shipping stocks Northern Steam paid-up were wanted at 16/6, and contributing at 7/2, while 36/6 is offered for Devonport Ferry shares. Buyers came in for new issue New Zealand and River Plate shares at 20/, but no sales resulted. The return from the Blucher reef in the Tairua Broken Hills mine is reported to be a satisfactory one. ( rushing has commenced at the West Tokatea new battery. Some good ore is awaiting treatment. Monowai shares changed hauds this week at 2/2.
Enquiry was made this week for Sharland’s Drug shares at 15/6. Another lOlbs of specimens has been obtained in the Nil Des|>erandum mine, Mahakiran. and gold is seen each breaking down of the lode.
New Zealand Accident Insurance shares had enquiry this week at 29/. D.S.C. shares sold at 8/9, with buyers left at 8/7.
Auckland Gas shares had demand, at £l3 10 for old, and £lO 15/ for new shares.
