Dear Bee, September 28. The Napier Golf Club ball, a function which has for some time past fallen into disuetude, was revived last week to* the gratification of those visitors who have come to Napier for the annual tournament, as well as to the members of the local club, although, owing no doubt to the fact that they were tired with playing all day, they did not all put in an appearance. The ball was held in the Theatre Royal, and drew together between sixty and seventy people. Dancing in the prettily decorated rooms did not cease until one o’clock in the morning. Mrs Morris, the wife of the captain, was handsomely dressed in cream brocade; the secretary, Miss Cotterill, wore black and pink; Mrs Carlile’s white gown -was veiled with black; Mrs Kettle wore black: Miss Kettle was daintily dressed in blue: Mrs Coleman had a rich black silk

dress; Miss Florence Watt was iu blue; .Miss Sii«ieox wore pink; Miss Burke was iu |m!c heliotrope; Miss Ethel Buike hail a yellow silk dress; Miss Page wore black; Mis> Kilty Williams. pale blue; Dixon, pink silk; Messrs Morris. McLean had a bright blur dress and a sable cape: Mrs Shaw was in biack; Miss Donnelly wore a brown coat and skirt; Miss I'itzroy and Miss Louie Fitzroy (Hastings)' naw blue skirts, fawn jackets and sailor hats; Mrs Moore was in fawn: Miss Twigg. navy blur and a pretty t'lqiie trimmed with pink. Tea was given on the first day by Mrs Morris, on the second dav by Mrs Coleman, and on the third bv Mrs P. S. McLean and t lie Misses Davis. Mr, Mrs and Miss Boult gave another successful concert at the Athenaeum Hall on tin* ?0t h inst., when the building was, as on the previous occasion, well tilled. The programme opened with a pianoforte duel, two of Grieg’s Norwegian Dances, the performance <»f which was much appreciated. Mr Boult followed with Resting Place.” and later in the evening gave, the favourite ’’Farewell Song.” by Maude Valerie White, which was encored. Mrs Boult contributed the “Spring Song'’ ( Mendelssohn ) and “Polish Dance” (Paderewski). Miss Boult delighted the audience with her performance of “Reverie.” \ ieuxtemps, which had to be repeated, and at tlio end of I lie programme she gave “Yankee Doodle.** X’ieutemps, which although an old and well known tune, has many intricacies, which are ditlicult to overcome.
