BLENHEIM.

Dear Bee, August 13. An exceedingly eTTJ.iyable concert was given in St. Andrew’s schoolroom last Wednesday evening, when encores were so numerous that the programme was almost doubled. The opening piece was a piano duet. "Fra Diavolo,” played by Miss Minnie AlcArtney and Mr Cheek, which was followed by a song by Mr Wilmot, "The Brave Sentinel,” which was worthy of an encore, blit suffered the fate of things coming early in the evening before the audience had warmed up. Miss Healy sang "Who’s at M3' Window" sweetly, and Mr Sturrock "The East Muster” dramatically. The florid music of "Tell Me, My Heart” suited Mrs R. McCallum's flexible voice admirably, and being encored she sang a couple of verses of "Coinin’ Thro’ the Rye." Mrs Lucas was also recalled for her song. “Silver Wings," and repeated the last verse. A violin obligato was played by Mr Cheek. Mrs Mclntosh excelled herself in “Eternal Rest,” and repeated the last verse when recalled. Other instrumental pieces were a gavotte. “Heimliche Liebe.” by two violins, Masters Armstrong and Hillier Cheek, and piano, Mr Cheek: a trombone solo, “The Wanderers.” by Mr It. Logan; and a trio, "Minuet," byMessrs Taylor (flute). Hay (violin), and Cheek'(piano). Margarita” was delightfully sung by Mr .1. Rose, whose sweet tenor voice was well suited to the music. It goes without saying that he was encored. The second part of the programme was "Scotch," and was opened by a number of Scotch reels, spiritedly played by Miss Hutcheson. Mr Orr sang “Oh, Whistle aiid I’ll Come to You, My Lad," receiving an enthusiastic encore. Mrs Reid's rich and sweet voice gave intense, pleasure to all in “My Heather Hills,” which received the usual token of approbation; to which she responded by repeating a verse. Miss Innes (Dunedin) sang “Up i’ the Mornin’ Early,” and for an encore song “.Jock, o’ Hazeldean,” and later the two ladies joined •in a delightful duet, delightfully sung, “Row Wee], My Boatie,” their voices blending most pleasingly. Mr Mclntosh received quite an ovation for ‘‘The Barfin’ o’, the Door.” and sang ‘‘The Laird o’ Cockpen,’’ which in its turn was’ encored, when he gave “When the Gude Man Came Home at E’en.” Ah ■ instrumental duet (organ and piano) by Miss Hay and Mr Cheek was much liked.
