The Wonderful Cat.
In the country there lived a friend of our family who kept chickens. In the spring several years ago he put a hen to set. Xow. this hen was a faithful setter during the day. but would always leave the eggs at night and rest on the perch. Xow. this friend also had a cat. who was very friendly with the chickens, and at night when the hen would leave the eggs she would lie in 1 he box and cover the eggs till morning. There was a shoemaker living close by. to
whom c.ne of the boys .»f the family said they had a cat at home who was hatching nut eggs, and to prove it to him they brought him around one evening, and. sure enough, the cat was covering the eggs. In due time the little chickens were hatched, ami the shoemaker to this day believes that the cat hatched them. The above is a. true story. I can furnish names, etc., if necessarv. KIA Y I).
