JUNGLE JINKS.

THE START AND FINISH OF A FOOTBALL MATCH

1. It was the first football practice of the season. Rhino and Kanga were on one side, and Jumbo and Bruin on the other. “The playground is rather small for football,” said Rhino; “but we shall have to make the best of it, I suppose, as Doctor Lion won’t let us go out and play.” “Never mind,” said Jumbo, “we must kick gently', and then the ball won’t go over the wall. Now. Bruin, you kick off. Play!”

2. One, two, three—boom! Bruin gave a kick, and up went the ball. “Oh, vou silly kipper, von have sent it over the wall!” growled Jumbo and Rhino. ■Now we shall have to wait until someone throws it back for us. Gracious me:" exclaimed Jane, the nursemaid, who was taking Mrs. Duck s two children out for a. walk. “It’s a cannon-ball, sure enough! Oh-o-o. lin ■•oing to die!” And the ducklings squealed in chorus.

3. Bump! went the football right on poor .lane’s chest, and down she fell like a ninepin. “Oh, nurse, nurse, conic and catch us quick!” cried tlie ducklings in alarm. "The pram is running away with us!” But before Jane could fiv to the rescue the pram turned upside down, and the ducklings had a very "unpleasant time. “Gee, hee!” giggled Jumbo and the other boys, who popped their heads over the wall to see the cause of the noise. Hark at them squealing for a little bit off the top! Ain’t it funny?” Hut when Doctor Lion put n stop to football games in the playground they didn’t think it quite so amusing. From the Playbox.
