The high prices asked for standard stocks had the natural effect of somewhat checking the demand this week. More at tention is now being paid to shares in mining companies. Cheaper lines of mining shares had more enquiry. Waihi Consolidateds sold at 4d. Waihi Souths at 71d, May Queen Extendeds at 5d and 5Jd, Whaus at 3d and 4d, Kuranui-Cale-donians at 4d. and Waihi Extendeds at Sid. National Mortgage Agency shares were in demand at 28/, and River Plate at 20/. A parcel of 20 loads of ore from the Ironcap mine, Tararu, was treated this week for a return of bullion worth £lO4. A crushing of 10 tons of ore has just been completed at the Cabbage Bay mine by Messrs. Blasch and Webb. It yielded 9’.ozs of gold, valued at £26. The liquidators for the Grace Darling G.M.Co. invite tenders, returnable July sth, for the purchase of the mine and plant, situated at Waitekauri. South British Insurance shares sold up to 06/, after which buyers fell off. New Zealand Insurance were wanted at 64/, and Accident at 22/0.

Great 'Barrier shareholders met this week and decided to go into voluntary liquidation, as the property has been sold. New Zealand Talisman shares, after selling at 11/9, were a little easier towards the close of the week, 11/ being the best offer. The result of the first crushing from the Marototo mine was scarcely satisfactory. Since starting to break out ore for treatment 342 tons have been dealt with for a return of £759 7/8. This included the parcel of 22 tons of ere sent to Dapto, N.S.W., which yielded £3OB. The residue. 320 tons, yielded bullion worth £451 7/8. Kauri Timber shares have again advanced in price, 7/6 being offered for paid-up issue, while contributing shares were dealt in at 2/2 and 2/3. Hikurangi Coal shares firmed a little, being wanted at 8/3. Westports have steady buyers at 71/. During the week ended to-day, returns were reported from 30 dredges, the total yield being 13500zs 12. is 2grs, or an average of 45ozs per dredge. The Junction Electric IL Company yield was 3360z5; Vincent, 1420zs 4dwts; Golden Beach. 70ozs 4dwts 2grs; Perseverance. 67ozs 12dwts; Hartley and Kiley, 62ozs Bdwts; and Empire, 62ozs 4dwts 12grs. Waihi shares sold at £9 18/, and are now in demand at £ 10. The half-yearly meeting of shareholders in the Harbour View Company lapsed for want of a quorum. The directors’ report stated the principal work had been done by tributers. The receipts totalled £lB2 12/4. of which £l2 2/1 was percentages of gold won by tributers. The expenditure left a credit balance of £B4 9/9. Buyers offered 54/6 for New Zealand Drug shares. Barrier Reefs advanced from buyers 6/4 to 7/, but no sales were reported. Progress-Castle Rock Company treated 90 tons of ore for a return valued at £ 130. Komata Reef shares advanced during the week from 2/3 to 2/8, with steady demand at 2/6. Standard Insurance shares firmed to buyers at 15/, with no sellers quoted. Hartley and Riley dredge shares sold from £() down to £7 12/6 this week. Transactions in Waiotahi shares so seldom.occur that the fact of a sale being made this week at 25/ is worthy of special note. Enquiries were made daily for May Queens at 1/11, and Tararu Creek shares at 1/2. Sales were made of Waitekauri shares at 57/, an advance of 1/ for the week. ; The Vincent Dredge (Dunedin) obtained 62ozs of gold for the week’s work. Auckland Gas shares firmed in price, buyers offering £ 14. A heavy flow of water was struck in the Waihi South mine, causing shares to double in price for a day or two, until the fact was made known that the water in the Consols shaft had lowered 40 feet. Increased pumping power may be required before the Waihi South resumes work.

May Queen Extended shares have, > * upward tendency, accounts from '-m» mine being of a satisfactory cha.-ue-ter. Starting at £5 4/ this week, buyers of New Zealand Shipping advanced io five guineas without causing holders to quote. Northern Steam were wanted at 14/6 (paid up), and 6/10 for contributing shares. New Whau Company secured 151bg of specimens this week from the Sons of Freedom reef. Shares have an upward tendency, as the mine is well situated.
