Ladles and Gentlemen,—< *J' I take this opportunity ot returning to you my grateful thanks tor the pround position m which you have maced me. The majority of 2104 was aa ’•agreeable surprise and proved that the good people of Auckland recognise and my service on their behalf m the past. What to me makes the victory more telling. Is the fact that owing to my position of Chairman of the Harbour Board, my time has been fully occupied .In endeavouring to prevent the Invasion of our country by the plague, and on That account alone I was prevented from •paying that attention to the Electors [Which otherwise It would have been my Muty and pleasure to have done. I will always befound supporting my fellow members in endeavouring to elevate [New Zealand to the position of the most prosperous and attractive of British Colonial Possessions, , k and to induce large population to come to our shores hsid to settle in the magnificent country Xjow being opened up hi the North Island. It will always be my pleasure to support those beneficent measures which [are a blessing to the workers and have Jaid the foundation of the true political great ness and future prosperity of New [Zealand. [ I also wish to take this opportunity ot congratulating the people of Auckland on the fact that the present is the first occasion for a number of years on which the united city members have been el[ected as supporters of the Government. •i Assuring the whole of the electorate of my intention to serve one and all to the best of my power, and that irrespec-: ttve of party.
