Miss Stace, Robin Hood’s Bay, Blenheim, is paying a visit to Mrs Mules, nt Bisbopscourt, Nelson.

Mr Hugh Patterson, of Cullensville, Marlborough, who has been in charge of the Post and Telegraph Office for some years past, has joined the ambulance corps for South AfricaPrevious to leaving the district he was entertained by the residents of Alahakipawa. Grove, and Cullensv lie. and presented with a purse of sovereigns. Mr J. Hodgson, of Blenheim, takes Mr Patterson’s place at Cullensville.

Airs Pole-Penton and her daughter have gone for a trip to Englund.

Airs Heaton Rhodes (Christchurch) is paying a visit to Wellington. Mrs We!ford and Miss Scott* Pieton. returned from Kaiuma, Pelorus Sound, and subsequently proceeded by mail boat to Tory Channel to visit their brother, Mr R. Scott, at Port I nderwood. The formation of tracks all over the hills round the Sounds, and across low ranges, have been a great boom to hitherto isolated settlers, who can uow receive visits from their friends, and be iu touch with the outside world.

The Rev. J. C. and Mrs Andrew (Ba rarapa) are staying with their daughter, Mrs Hudson, Nelson. Mrs A. G. Fell, who went to Nelson to be present at her niece’s wedding, has returned to Picton. Air and Airs T. Garrard have been at Hamner Plains. Mr Garrard is improving in health after his bicycle accident.

Mr and Airs Bond (nee Elworthy) spent part of their wedding tour in Wellington en route for Australia. Aliss Julius (Christchurch) has been the guest of Mrs Wallis at Bisbopscourt. Wellington, for a few days last week. Lady Hall (Horarata) is staying at Park Terrace, Christchurch, for the benefit of her health. Air and Mrs Robert Parker, of Wellington, leave shortly for a trip to the Old Country. Mr Parker was presented with a purse of sovereigns by the various musical societies, of which he was conductor, at a, farewell concert given him on Monday last. Airs George Rhodes was staying* at Warner’s at the time of the tire, but beyond a fright escaped ady danger. Aliss Cotterill, Blind River, is in Picton visiting her cousin, Mrs 11. F. Thompson, Aliss Pasley, Gisborne, is also visiting Mrs Thompson. Aliss Monro, ‘’Valleyfield,” is in town staying* with Mrs Mclntire, Blenheim. Air E. 11. Alogar leaves Wellington shortly to settle in Australia, and will lie greatly missed in musical circles, where Irs beautiful tenor voice has become a feature of the concerts there. The leading musicians and his many friends in Wellington intend giving Mr Mogar n farewell concert before his departure at the Opera House on the 6th of April, which is sure to prove a musical treat, and in view of the personal popularity of the benefieaiie. is also sure to be very largely attended. Mr and Mrs Heaton Rhodes, of Christchurch, are staying at the Masonic Hotel, Napier. Dr. Guinness, who has for some time held the post of house surgeon nt the Napier Hospital, has left for Auckland. Mrs Bowen, of Napier, has returned from a visit to the country. Mrs Shrimpton has been staying in Napier for a few days. Mr Griimrtt, of the Bank of New South Wales, Napier, has been moved to Christchurch. Mr F. Dodd, of the Telegraph Department, Wellington, is now nt White’s Hay. near Blenheim, to superintend or lest the repair of the Cook'4 Strnit cable. Miss D. Quirk (Wellington) has left for a lengthy vi>it to England.

Miss Rees, matron of the Wairau Hospital, Blenheim, is on a visit to friends iu Nelson. Mr .1. Sherrard, of the Thames, who is leaving for England, was entertained at a banquet ami euucert last week. A very successful gathering was held. Miss G. Jones, of Nelson, is staying with her sister, Mrs Falkner. Motueka \ alley.

Mr T. W. Macauley, well-known in Wellington volunteer circles, has been presented with handsome wedding gifts by his fellow employees. Mrs and Miss Winstanley, who have been making a short visit to Wellington, have returned to Blenheim.

Sealy, of New Plymouth, had a bad bicycle accident last week, but escaped with a severe shaking. Daily one hears of fortunates leaving for England ami Paris. Mr and Mrs .1. Edwards, of Paeroa, are going immediately. Ben voyage. Mrs Knight, of Dannevirke. has been paying a short visit to Napier. Mr and Mrs Gibbin, of Hawke's Bay, have left for England. The congratulations of the musical coterie in Dunedin have been showered on Miss Vida Thompson ami Miss Euphemie Yorston, who have passed the Trinity College exam., and are not able to put A.T.C.L. after their names. Miss Rees, of Gisborne, is staying in Napier.

Dr. ami Mrs Ewart (Wellington) have gone for a trip to the South Island. Mirs Ewart has been very ill lately, and it is to be hoped she will return much benefited by the change.

Mrs Lascelles and her two little girls have left for England, her sister (Miss G. Robison) going with them. Captain Anderson, of Ponsonby. Auckland, who has been very ill of acute pneumonia, is on a fair way to reeoverv.

Miss Caro, of Auckland, has gone on a vwvit to Christchurch.

The Misses Greenfield (4) have arrived in Blenheim from Wellington, and are staying at the Criterion Hotel for a short time before going to “\ernon." which has been recently purchased by their brother, and is being put in order for their reception. Miss M. Speed lias been visiting her sister (Mrs E. Rutherford) at Kekeraugu. but has returned to Picton, ami. with Mrs Howard (Blenheim), is now visiting the Empire City. Mrs R. D. Thomas has returned from the Hamner Plains after a pleasant holiday.

Dr. Hudson, of Nelson, has returned from Wellington after a few days’ trip.

Miss Celia McLernon, who lias been on a visit to Auckland, left last week for Gisborne, where she intends staving for a short time before returning to her home in Napier.

Mr 11. S. Hough, teller of the Bank of N.Z., Nelson, has been transferred on promotion to Suva, Fiji. Before leaving Nelson a number of his friends entertained him at the Masonic Hotel ami presented him with a handsome dressing-case, accompanied by a letter testifying to his excellent, business and '■'rial omdities. Captain A. W. Pearse, it the " Australian Pastoralists* Review,” who was in Auckland at the end of last week, is now in the South. He will inspect all the principal freezing and preserving works. Another Auckland visitor to Paris it Mr. John Coles, of Que m st r-.-e.. Mrs. Louis Ehrenfried and her daughter Auckland for Sydney, eu route for Germany, on Tuesday. They will be much missed in social and philanthropic circles in Auckland.

Mr. Cecil De Latour of Dunedin, who has gone with the " Fighting Fifth” to South Africa, was ente - tained by the Pinites Football Club prior to his departure. Mr De Latour was, during the evening, presented with a handsome case of pipes.

The late Publie Trustee, Mr. J. C. Martin, who has been appointed Acting Judge, will be a great loss to the colony in his former position. He was an ideal Public Trustee, and won the respect of all who were brought into contact with him. His courtesy in answering preliminary enquiries, and the individual interest he displayed in all difficulties submitted to him by clients of the office, was beyond praise. That he will make an upright, wise, ami patient judge is certain, but his loss to the colony as Public Trustee is very severe.

Mr. J. W. Pay ton. who succeeds Mr. ■I. C. Martin as Publie Trustee, was Stipendiary Magistrate at Invercar-g-.Ji. He was a strong and able magistrate, and is endowed with qualities which should render him a fitting successor to so able a. man as Mr. Afartin.

Quartermaster-Sergeant Christie, of the Fourth Contingent (Dunedin), was. prior to his departure, the recipient of many tokens of esteem and regard, including a splendid lever wateh from the “B” Battery. .Mr. Harry McGregor, son of Mr. 11. A McGregor, Chief Inspector < f Machinery for this colony, is a member of Lumsden's Horse, a troop raised privately at Calcutta for service in the Transvaal. The high regard in which the congregation of St. Benedict's, Auckland, hold the Rev. Father Kamp was

amply demonstrated at the recent farewell social tendered him in the fine schoolroom connected with the church. The St. Benedict's Club presented a photographic shield, and the ladies a preaching stole. The Rev. Father has since left Auckland, and leaves a host of friends behind him.
