AUCKLAND.

Dear Bee, March 27. Mrs Steele and Miss Savage, of Parnell, gave a very large At Home on Wednesday afternoon last at the Parnell tennis and croquet lawns. The weather was just as magnificent as ever. Our hostess received us at the entrance of the pavilion, which was gaily decorated with national flags, the Union Jack, of course, being conspicuously placed. The archway was also adorned with branches of tree ferns and bamboo. From the roof of the pavilion baskets of fern were suspended with ribbons of the tricolours, in honour of Mrs Steele’s son, and they were also draped with the same pretty combination. The table decorations consisted of green silk veiled in white embroidery, as centre piece, relieved with vases of pink belladonna lilies and ferns, surrounded with abundance of dainty cakes, fruits, and sweets of every description. The string band was in attendance, and the excellent music was quite a feature of the afternoon. Mrs Steele was ably assisted by her daughter, and Miss Savage by her father. All were assiduous in their endeavours to promote the pleasure of their many guests. Among those present was Mrs Steele's son, Trooper Oliver Steele, of the Fifth Contingent, who left Auckland on the following day with the rest of his company. He was able at Mrs Steele’s At Home to say farewell to many of his Auckland friends.
