Miss Edythe Horne, who has been away foe a considerable time in Nelson and Wellington, is once again in Blenheim, where she is staying with her mother.

Mr Mervyn Horton left Blenheim last week to take the position of assistant purser on the Te Anau. to which he was promoted from the office of the Union S.S. Company in Blenheim. Mr Fish, of the Bank of N.S.W. in Blenheim, has a month's leave of absence. which he will.spend in Christchurch. His kxtuni tenens, Mr Burnes, came from Wellington.

Mrs 'Meliftosh : (Greymocitfr), who has been visiting her daughter-fn-law, Mrs G. W. Mclntosh, in Blenheim, left for Wellington at the end of last week. Mr and Mrs B. Wynn-Williams left Blenheim last Wednesday to make a short visit to Wellington. Miss Mary Christophers, of Greymouth, is at present on a visit to Mrs Chaytor, “Marshlands,” Blenheim. Mr and Mrs Vavasour, of “Ugbrooke,” Blenheim, left for Wellington last Wednesday. Miss E. Adams returned to Blenheim on Saturday night after a visit of several mouths to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Alasefield, “M.anaroa,” Pelorus Sound, were staying iu.Pic.ton: for a few days last week.

Mr Roy Robertshaw has obtained an appointment in the Bank of N-Z. at Danevirke, and left Picton ou Wednesday last. Mrs Clark, North Island*, is staying with her brother and sister, Mr and Mrs Bowles, in Pieton. Mrs Allen and Mrs Riddell. Picton, spent a day in Blenheim last week shopping. Miss Nina Greensill, Picton, has won an exhibition of £2O per year for two years at the Canterbury University College. Miss Millington, Greymouth, is visiting her sister Mrs E. Kenny, iu Picton. Mrs Henry Harris, “Ketu Bay,” Pelorus Sound, is in Picton staying with her mother, Mrs T. Philpotts.

Mrs- Renwick and her sister, Mrs Robertson, of Nelson, have gone to the Rai Valley for a short visit, which it is hoped will prove beneficial to the former lady's health.

Miss Haselden, of Wellington, is visiting Mrs Webb-Bowen, of Nelson. Mr Percy Adams has returned to Nelson from Christchurch, whither he went to attend the race meeting and other festivities.

Mrs Colt, of Brightwater, Nelson, has gone for a short trip to Blenheim and Wellington. Miss Greenwood, of Wellington, is staying with Mrs Holloway, Nelson. Mr C. G. Fell, of Nelson, spent a few days in Wellington last week. Miss Mary Christophers, of Greymouth, is visiting Nelson. Mr and Mrs Wood have given up their residence at “Brooklands,” and are at present staying with their daughter, Mrs P. Andrew, Hardystreet, Nelson.

Mr and Mrs Charles Johnston, Wellington, returned home from their visit to Christchurch this week, with Mr Harold Johnston.

The former hermit of Island Bay has returned to New Zealand in a destitute condition, and is now an inmate of the Benevolent Home in Wellington,. his English relatives declining to help him any further. The Rev. Mr Masters, curate of St. Paul’s Church. Wellington, is about to leave for Adelaide, and his departure will be greatly regretted, as A4c Masters lias been indefatigable in his work in the parish, and is exceedingly popular among the parishioners. Mrs Rie'hmonri. of the “Cliffs," Nelson, is visiting her relatives in Wellington. The Rev. C. S. Ogg; of St. Andrew’s PresWyterian Church, returned to NewZealand by the Gothic from a visit to the Old Country, having greatly benefited by and enjoyed his visit to Scotland. Upon his return several ladies of his congregation presented him wifh a new pulpit gown and cassock, the presentation being made at the Manse on Wednesday afternoon.

Miss Rose Tabart, Christchurch, is staying with Mrs Rhodes, at. the Grange, in Wellington. Mr Kane 'has been appointed manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Wellington in succession to the late Mr Sommerville.

Mrs Arthur Bell (Australia) is paying a visit to New Zealand, and is at present the guest of Mrs H. D. Bell, Wellington. Miss Beswick, of Christehureb, is staying with friends in Wellington. Mr and Mrs C. Bidwill, Mr and Mrs 1.. Pharazyn, Mr and Airs Bunny, anil Mrs Still are among those who are in Wellington for race week. Captain Russell, who has been laid up in Wellington since October, returned to Hawke’s Bay last Monday, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs Nairn, who has been with him for some time past.

Miss Nellie Cotterill, of Napier, is visiting Christchurch and Dunedin. Air and Airs Gordon, of Clifton, Hawke’s Bay, have returned after a visit to England. As their residence at Clifton was destroyed by fire a few weeks ago they intend to take up their residence at Hiverslea.

Dr. Aioore, of Napier, has returned from a fortnight’s visit to Wellington. By the last mail news was received from All- F. M. Wallace, and the. date of his departure from England fixed for the 9th December, arriving ire Christchurch the end of January, where he may rest assured he will receive a hearty welcome. The Students’ Club, conducted by Afiss Aloor,. will give an At Horae at their studio, Canning’s Buildings, Queen-street, on Monday next, December 4th.

Airs and Aliss Kinsey. Christchurch, returned from Timarn on Tuesday night, after a long and very enjoyable holiday, both having benefited mueh by the change. Airs H. H. Loughnan. “Risingholme, ** Opawa, gave a charming afternoon tea to some of her friends last Wednesday. Tennis, croquet, ten. and music were all to be had. and one is always sure of good music there. _

Mr and Mrs Fairtax Fenwick, late of Napier, left lust week for the South.

Mr'and Mrs Rout have returned to Cambridge after spending an enjoyable holiday at Rotorua.

The opening of the Cambridge Howling Green was held tn the Domain on Wednesday, the 15th. The green is situated in a particularly pretty spot, and adjoins two tenuis courts, which however were not in use on this day. The “'bowlers” were photographed several times by Messrs Hill and Ellerbeck, with very good results. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Captain and Mrs Anderson returned to Auckland from Australia last week. Mrs (Judge) Smith, Grafton Hoad, has issued invitations for a garden party on December- sth in’ honour of Miss ‘“Tottie” Brown, prior to her marriage, which takes place on December 12tli. Airs McKenzie, who has been visiting Iter brother, Mr Fraser of New Plymouth. returned to her home in Waipu last week. She was accompanied by 'her niece. Miss Jeannie Fraser. Mrs D. Wilson and two children, of New Plymouth, is on a visit, to her relatives in Wanganui. Mrs l.eo Myers, of Wellesley-street, Auckland, has gone to Okoroire for a month.

Mrs (Dr. AL) Anderson, of Christchurch, gave a girls’ Book Title tea at. the Ladies’ Club one. afternoon last week, which was a most enjoyable anti merry gathering. Miss Prins got the prize for most original design of “‘The Royal Reader.” and Aliss Alay Thomas took the guessing- prize. The Hon. J. A. Tole, Crown Prosecutor at Auckland, who was prostrated with influenza last week, was able to put in an appearance at the Supreme Court on Monday last, and to thank His Honor Judge Conolly for adjourning the court for a day. and to also thunk those gentlemen who took up his duties for him. . Mrs John Hosking and two children returned to Dunedin by the express, having spent a very enjoyable fortnight in Cbristc'hureh. Air Stratford, S.AI.. will retire from the Civil Service in Alay next. He will then, says an exchange, have been in the service of the Government for thirty-eight years odd. The Typographical Association in Auckland have presented the lion. W. T. Jennings with a purse of sovereigns. No man better deserved a presentation than the. Hon. Air Jennings. His public life has been as free from reproach as 'his private, and he has acted and spoken fearlessly and boldly on all important issues. Dr. Williams, late of the Thames Hospital, was the other day presented with an illuminated address, indicative of the good feeling prevailing on the. part of the Hospital trustees, and their regret at 'his severing his connection with them. Dr. Williams is starting practice in Auckland. The Austrian Consul in Auckland, Air E. I.angguth, has been created Knight of the Distinguished Order of Franz Josef by the Emperor of Austria. The news that the Rev. All- FitzGerald to resign his charge, of St. Matthew's -Church, Auckland, has Spread regret; not alone amongst his parishioners, but throughout the community. Air Fitz Gerald was an indefatigable worker, and accomplished an enormous amount of good in Auckland. He will be severely missed. Air and Mrs E. D. Benjamin will reside in Dr. and Airs Charles Haines' house, I’rinces-street;, Auckland, in the absence of the latter in England. Air J. W. Bryers, Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire, with Air W. L. Bryers. is at present in A neklaud, stopping at the Star Hotel. Air and Airs Tom Cotter and family have returned to Auckland after a pleasant run round the Old Country, Europe and America.

Captain Hayward, of the Mariposa, was presented with a liqueur stand by the Balmain Regatta Committee as a mark of their appreciation of his Courtesy when the Mariposa was flagship at the regatta. Mrs Street, with Miss Rook and Airs Gillies, returned to Parnell. Auckland. last week, after a pleasant stay iu New South Wales.

Air C. W. Hemery has left Auckland for Sydney to take up his new duties. Mrs Murphy, of Gisborne, is visiting Auckland. Air ami Miss Mill. of Port Chalmers, were stopping in Auckland at the time of writing.
