AMATEUR ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHfPS.
On another page we give a photo of the members of the New Zealand' team, which has just won the championship banner in Brisbane, taken on the wharf just prior to their departure for Australia. Each of the five members composing the team has amply jnstifiexl his selection, every man hav-
ing proved victorious in one event. Tha hot weather in Brisbane has evidently upset the team to a certain extent, so its success in carrying off tha banner is very gratifying. '■ ♦ PARNELL SAILING CLUB. The first series of sailing races of this club took place on Saturday, ami resulted in an exceedingly pleasant afternoon's sport. In the Patiki class the Eka proved successful, and the M\ ra won the race for 22-footers. In 26-footers there were only three starters, and Pastime won after a- close race. 'There was a lot of interest taken in the Open Handicap, and the starters were Thelma (seh), Rainbow (2min 15sec). Aorere (Sniin), and Corina (15min>. After a. most exciting race the Thelma ami Rainbow finished a dead heat, tin latter winning on her time allowance. THINK OF IT. ‘•By George, Cm glad I wasn't Methuselah!" "Why?" “Think what a strain it would be to pay the premiums for as many years as that on the life insurance I carry.”
