Dear Bee, September 29. The Bishop of Waiapu and Miss Edith Williams gave a delightful garden party at "Hukarere” on Monday, September 25th, when, in spite of the threatening clouds, the pretty grounds were crowded with brightlydressed guests. The tea tables were placed in different parts of the garden, and several of those present gave selections of music during the afternoon. The Bishop and Miss Williams received their guests upon the lawn, and among the numerous arrivals were Mrs Douglas McLean, in black silk, trimmed with guipure lace, feather boa. and large black hat, with black plumes; Miss Kate Williams wore black brocade, a black lace mantle, and a bonnet trimmed with purple flowers; Miss M. Williams was also in black; Mrs Fenwick had a striking costume of black and rose pink; Mrs Lawrence looked well in black silk; Mrs Ormond, black; Miss Ormond, deep blue, with rows of white braid; Mrs Coleman, black brocade and a black bonnet, trimmed with pink roses; Miss Florence Watt wore blue cloth, the white satin yoke covered with cream guipure lace, black velvet hat; Mrs Balfour looked well in black, relieved with orange; Miss Balfour, a pretty heliotrope costume and a toque to match; Miss Muriel Balfour was in pale pink, trimmed with rows of black velvet ribbon, black lace hat; Mrs R. B. Smith wore black and a black picture hat; Mrs Davidson, green and black; Mrs P. McLean was in blue and wore a brown hat; Mrs Dewar was also in blue; Mrs Kettle wore dark blue, relieved with white; Miss Kettle, a dainty white muslin dress, with rows of insertion and pale blue baby ribbon, large hat, trimmed with blue flowers; Miss Cotterill wore a dark cloth costume; Miss Nellie Cotterill was in white muslin, trimmed with black velvet, black hat, with plumes; Mrs Lusk
looked well in pale grey, with a white chiffon yoke and toque to match; Miss Heath, dark blue, black hat, with pink roses; Miss Janie Heath wore a well fitting grey coat and skirt and a sailor hat; Mrs Cornford, black silk, black and petunia bonnet; Miss Cornford looked exceedingly well in a dainty dress of white muslin and yellow, and a black velvet picture hat; Mrs Hovell wore pale green; Mrs Locking was in black silk; Miss Muriel Locking, cream serge coat and skirt, with gold buttons; Mrs Wood, a bright blue costume,, with rows of white braid; Miss Wood, sage green and white; Miss Kitty Williams looked dainty in a pretty pale blue silk blouse, a dark skirt and a large hat; Mrs Donnelly had a very handsome costume, a black brocade skirt, a petunia silk cape, covered with deep cream guipure lace, black hat; Miss Maud Donnelly had a pretty biscuit-coloured dress and a cape to match; Mrs Kight, green coat and skirt; Mrs Grey, biscuit chiffon over green, white hat, with pink roses; Mrs Carlyon wore black; Mrs Bull had a bright blue costume, with a black hat; Miss Twigg, fresh white pique coat and skirt, large hat of burnt straw, trimmed with pale pink chiffon; Miss Violet Twigg, white muslin over pale blue, large Leghorn hat, tied under the chin with a large white chiffon bow; Mrs Tiffen was in black and a black lace cape; Miss Tiffen, pretty deep cream spotted muslin, sailor hat; Mrs Seed (Wellington) wore black; Mrs Bowen, pale grey coat and skirt; Mrs De Lisle had a dainty pale grey dress, trimmed with white chiffon; Miss Emily Spencer, navy blue coat and skirt, sailor hat; Miss Page also wore a dark coat and skirt; Mrs Ronald looked well in black and white; Mrs Anderson had a pretty slate-coloured costume; Mrs Begg, black silk; Miss Mary Dinwiddie, pretty white muslin dress over pink; Miss Lyndon, white muslin, sailor hat; Miss Braithwaite, blue and white.
