NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, July 27. ‘ A BALL, in aid of the Recreation Grounds, was held in the Theatre Royal last week, and was a great success, both socially and financially. A special word of praise is due to the hon. secretaries, Mr J. C. George and Mr D. Teed, jun., who spared neither time nor trouble. A recherche supper, good music, and a perfect floor, all contributing to the comfort and pleasure of the company, who passed a very enjoyable evening. A CONCERT was given in St. Andrew’s Hall, New Plymouth, last Wednesday evening, to bid farewell to Mr Archie MacDiarmid, who is leaving New Plymouth to complete his engineering course at Southland Ironworks, Invercargill, for joining the New Zealand Shipping Company’s service. At this concert the opportunity was taken to welcome back Mr Evan Evans, who has just completed a most successful course of electrical engineering in Great Britain and on the Continent. Rev. Air Osborne presented Mr MacDiarmid, on behalf of the congregation of St. Andrew’s Church, with a travelling rug and straps and small handbag, and. on .behalf of the choir a set of gold sleeve-links and’pendant compass.
