CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, June 14. Small social amusements have been forgotten for this week, everyone has been so engrossed over the weddings, and to-day, at Papanui, another one takes place—that of Miss Dunnage and Mr Le Cren. Mrs G. Gould entertained a host of small friends to tea on Saturday afternoon, about thirty little people being present. A few grown-ups helped to make things pass pleasantly, and time to say good-night came all too soon. Two small euchre parties were given last week, and the one by Mrs John Anderson passed oft very happily. The ball to be given by the Mayor and Mrs Louisson this evening in the Art Gallery promises to be a brilliant affair, about 400 invitations have been accepted, and great preparations are being made for the comfort of the expected guests. Next week two large parties tor children take place in the Art Gallery, one to be given by Mrs Rochfort Snow, the other by Mrs Ranald Macdonald. On Friday evening the first Cinderella dance of the season takes place. The hostesses on this occasion will be Mesdames A. Boyle, Wigram, Pat Campbell and Woodroffe. Speaking of the latter reminds me of a very distressing accident which Happened to a maid of Mrs Woodroffe s last week, and should be a warning to others. The girl was lighting a. fire and used kerosene, the flash from which, as she ponred it on the fire, ignited her dress, and she, losing her presence of mind, ran outside, with the terrible result of being so burned that she died the following morning.
