NELSON.

Dear Bee, May 23. THE JUBILEE SINGERS, opened for a short season at the Theatre Royal on Monday evening, when a very large audience greeted these favourite musicians, and the whole performance was much enjoyed. Almost every piece on the programme was recalled, and several soloists received a double encore. The plantation songs in chorus were charming, the voices harmonising with most beautiful sweetness; the only regret was when each item came to an end. Amongst the audience were Mrs Renwick, black silk relieved with red; Mrs Adams, smart blouse of forget-me-not blue silk and cream lace, black skirt; Mrs Sweet, cream satin blouse, black silk skirt; Mrs Levien, black; and her sister, Miss Cohen, of Sydney, also wore black; Miss Levien, becoming cream evening dress; Miss Pitt, stylish evening blouse of bright pink silk, dark skirt; Mrs W. Oldham; Mrs J. Oldham; Miss

Oldham, black and white check blouse, black skirt; Miss Poole, dark green; Mrs Mules, and the Misses Mules (2); Mrs Fell, electric blue; Miss M. Atkinson; Mesdames Harris, Blackett, Kissling, Filleul, Atkinson, Jones, Harris, Pelorus Sound; the Misses WebbBowen (2), Harris (2), Day, Leggatt (2), Webb (Dunedin), Trolove, Robertson, Sealy (2), Blackett (2), Edwards (2), Filleul, Hubbard, Gibbs (2), and many others. On Friday evening Mrs Watts gave a PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PARTY at her residence, ‘Melrose.’ In spite of the very heavy rain almost all the guests were present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The first prizes were won by Mrs Harris and Mr Duncan, and the ‘boobies’ were Miss Pitt and Mr C. Levien. The supper was most recherche. Mrs Watts wore a very handsome and stylish gown of black silk, point lace cap; Mrs Percy Adams looked exceedingly well in a rich moire silk of an uncommon shade of pink, white lace on the bodiee, and a belt of ruby velvet; Mrs Sweet, oyster white gown showered with heliotrope flowers, and front of heliotrope chiffon; Mrs B. Lewis (nee Miss Ella Trimnell) was admired in a pretty dress of soft white silk. Others present were Colonel and Mrs Pitt and the Misses Pitt (2), Mr and Mrs Kingdon, Mr and Mrs Jack Sharp; Dr. and Mrs Roberts; Mesdames Renwick, Charles Watts, Harris, Mackay, the Misses Robertson, Quick (Wellington), Webb-Bowen, Bunny, A. Bell, Levien, Tomlinson, Messrs Percy Adams, Tinline. Tomlinson, Muir, Wratt, B. Lewis, Levien (2), Dunean, E. Mackay, and others.
