The love-letter of Henry VIII. to Anne Boleyn unearthed by Sir Benjamin Stone among the treasures of the Vatican library, and published last week in the ‘Daily Post,’ has a very gruesome interest. The amorous monarch writes to Anne Boleyn that ‘H’ seeks no other. Rex,’ accompaning thus with a drawing of a heart, and says that her absence has made a greater wound in his heart than words or writing can express, and only her presence can cure it’; and not so long after this unhappy woman was beheaded by his orders, while he was solacing himself with the charms of a third. We think vows in his case were only made to be broken, and loveletters are not worth much.
I have heard lately that in addition to face massage, for its improvement, eye massage is now recommended to those who suffer from tired eyes. The operation is very soon over—it lasts only ten minutes—and is said to be extremely- soothing. The eyelids are massaged gently with the forefingers and thumbs, rubbing them first towards the nose and then towards the ears. This must be done gently and regularly, and would be quite a simple thing for those who suffer from tired eyes to do themselves. Another verygood thing to do is to close the eyes for at least five minutes now and then during the day, and so give them complete rest.
