CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, March 5. On Wednesday last, at 8 p.m., an impressive and beautiful service was held in the Cathedral. It took the part of a farewell service to Bishop Wilson and his wife. Bishop Julius and Bishop Wilson gave short addresses, touching chiefly on the Melanesian Mission Fund, asking liberally for help. After the service many people took the opportunity of saying good-bye to Bishop Wilson and his wife, who left Christchurch on Thursday for the Islands. The tennis tournament was continued on Saturday, when another fine day enabled a good many matches to be got off. Mr Cecil Cox met Mr J. U. Collins in the championship singles, and a very fine exhibition of tennis was given by both players. Mr Collins led off with the first two sets, 6 —o, 6—2. Mr Cox scored the third and fourth, 6 —3. 6—3. The fifth set was most exciting, seven all being called, and then Mr Cox scored the next two games, giving him the match. These two players met in the final of the New Zealand Dawn Tennis Association tournament in Dunedin at Christmas last year, when Mr Cox was victorious. In the ladies' handicap doubles Misses Harman and Gordon had a good fight with the Misses Simpson (Linwood), beating them, 6—l, 2—6, 6—4. Mrs Bristed met Miss Jamieson in the final of the ladies’ handicap singles, Miss Jamieson winning the match and trophy. The Christchurch Bowling Club green on Saturday afternoon presented a gay and pretty sight, when ladies' day was observed. The green was in perfect order, so called forth some excellent play. The Engineers’ Band played mostly Scotch airs, in honour of the President and his wife, Mr and Mrs Struthers. The Hon. J. T. Peacock, at the close of the play, proposed the health of Mr Struthers and his guid wife, which was received with musical honours.
