PICTON.

Dear Bee, — January 2. On Thursday A PICNIC was arranged for Mr and Mrs Andrew's, who are shortly leaving for Wellington. Very little notice was given to Mrs Andrews’ friends by the organisers, so that most of them were unavoidably absent, having made other arrangements. However, a fair number turned up, and enjoyed themselves at Wilkinson’s Neck, going there by boat. Among those present were Mr and Mrs Andrews and family, Mrs Howard, Mr and Mrs Sedgwick. Mrs Philpotts, Mrs Duncan, Mrs Smith, Mrs Mackenzie, Misses Philpotts (3), Greensill, Downes, Western, (4), Mackenzie, etc., and Messrs Kenny, Greensill, Howard, etc. On Friday evening Mrs Duncan and her daughter, Mrs Smith, gave an ‘AT HOME’ to a few old friends of Mrs H. M. Haslett, of Auckland, who is staying in Picton just now. Cards and music helped to pass a pleasant little evening, not to mention a recherche little supper. Those present besides the hostesses were Mrs Allen, Mrs H. C. Seymour, Mrs H. Howard, Mrs Kenny, Misses Greensill (3), Downes, Millington, Messrs Duncan, Howard, Kenny, Greensill (3). A good many people are going out camping to-day. Captain and Miss Chapple, and Mr and Mrs Harvey are one party. Mrs Carey (Blenheim) and the Misses Fitzgerald (Wellington, with other friends, are another; the Rev. A. H. and Mrs Sedgwick. Miss Howard, the Masters Kempthorne (Nelson), and other young people are another party. There are so many beautiful bays to pick and choose from that the Sound can never be crowded. JEAN. Our Hastings, Blenheim, and Waiwera letters are unavoidably held over.
