NELSON COLLEGE DRAMATIC SOCIETY. This Society has recently added to its former Shakespearian successes by a production of the ‘Taming of the Shrew,’ as on former occasions, under the direction and stage management of Air E. F. W Cooke, one of the masters. Before a crowded theatre the play went with a good swing from start to finish. Naturally the parts of Petruchio and Katharine, in the hands of Mr J. Drummond and Miss Gribben (of the Girls' College), stood out most prominently; but Miss Sealy, as Bianca, and the students of the College in their respective parts also acted with ease and force, ft is so rare to witness a Shakespearian play in New Zealand that the Nelson College Society are to T>e complimented on their spirit in undertaking such a work. ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB. The above club, winners of the Association! championship, Wellington, have an exceptionally good record. During the season they played eight championship matches, winning seven and losing one — scoring 29 goals against their opponents’ 4. The total number of matches played during the year was eleven, with the result that eight were won, one lost, and two drawn; goals scored, 33, against their opponents' 6. The fine picture produced on another page is from the well-known photographers Kinsey and Co., Wellington. MRS GATENBY'S ST. BERNARD. The big St. Bernard, such as Du Maurier was never tired of giving us in Punch, is none too common in the colony. When seen, ‘take* a note of,* as they say in ‘Dombey and Son.’ Such a one is found in Mrs Gatenby's tine specimen, sometimes deigning to grace the streets of Wanganui with his presence.
