OUR ILLUSTRATIONS.

THE POSITION AT FASHODA. Many of our readers will recognise in this rtewpresentation of the position at Fashoda the face of an old friend. The actor in the three little scenes has appeared in the pages of the ‘Graphic’ before to-day and played many parts for our amusement, thanks to the photographic skill of his master Mr Chatfield, of Wellington. ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY AWARDS. We reproduce a photograph of Mr F. Fanning, who was recently presented with a certificate and medal from the Royal Humane Society of Australia for having rescued Albert Sawtell

from drowning at Wellington on the 12th December, 1897. He deserved great credit for this plucky action. Fanning was quite exhausted, as it was in mid harbour, and it took a considerable time for a boat to come to his aid. He was a resident of Auckland up to four years ago.
