MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, March 31. R. H. B. SPIRTS. On the 12th instant, the School Sports were held at Ro bin Hood Bay, and, much to our disappointment, some of us were unable to attend, owing to the inclemency of the weather; but from all I can hear, the sports were, as on previous occasions, a marked success. I have had presented to me one of the programmes, which is very nicely got up, being orange coloured with black lettering, the colours to represent those of the

school. The successive races were as follows:—lst. Senior R.H.B Handicap, E. Stace; 2nd Senior R.H.B Handicap, L. Clouston; 3rd Senior R.H.B. Handicap. K. Stace. Ist Junior R.H.B. Handicap, K. Mackenzie and R. Mowat tied for first place; 2nd Junior R.H.B. Handicap, L. Mowat; 3rd Junior R.H.B. Handicap. F. Clouston. Senior Jumps, K. Stace. Junior Jumps. K. Mackenzie. 100 Yards Open Handicap, F. Chaytor (Miss Stace’s prize, consisting of a volume of Longfellow’s Poems). 100 Yards Blindfold Race, E. Stace (Mr Stace’s prize). 220 Yanis Consolation Race, C. Mackenzie. Mr H. J. Stace acted as judge, Mr Haughey as starter, and Mr Harry Stace as time keeper. The secretary. Mr Edward Stace. is certainly to be congratulated upon his untiring energy in everything connected with the sports, and for the way in which he managed the boys. As the day proved very cold, the idea of having luncheon outside was abandoned, and instead, about one o’clock visitors and competitors assembled in the large dining room at ‘Robin Hood,’ and needless to say. did full justice to the delicacies set before them. Mrs Stace, in a black gown relieved with white, proved an excellent hostess, and was ably assisted by Miss Stace, who wore a dark skirt, and pretty pink silk blouse. In conclusion I, would like to say that Mr Chaytor, of Marshlands, has presented each of the boys at Robin Hood with a handsome bronze Jubilee Medal, which one and all will doubtless prize verv mueh. —I am, etc.,

SHYLOCK.
