AUCKLAND PAVILION SPORTS.
The combined efforts of the Amateur Athletic Club of Auckland, the Cycling Club, and the Cricket Association have been successful in contributing a very substantial foundation to the fund necessary for restoring the pavilion which was lately destroyed by tire in the Domain. On Saturday last the combined societies gave an uthletie exhibition which well merited the liberal patronage the publie conferred on it. The day was beautiful and the attendance large. Probably the most interesting of the events to the general public were the Chinamen's cycle race and Buffers' cycle race. In the latter J. T. Armitage (100 yards) came in first. Mr E. 11. .Lees (140 yards) following, and Mr A. M. Carter (30 yards) taking a third place. Other starters were: Messrs Austin Smith. J. A. Cooper. Aitken Carrick. L. M. Myers, J. H. Daveney, and A. S. Bankart. The competitors rode in ordinary touring costume, minus their eoats,‘and were prohibited from partaking of any refreshment during the race.
