PICTON.

Dear Bee, March 16. A whole week’s rain has fallen to the share of Pieton, though strange to say, none of it reached the country district where it is so greatly needed. The streets and fields are all beautifully green again. A PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PARTY was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Tuesday evening. Threatening weather kept away those who lived outside the town, but nevertheless a very jolly party assembled and spent a pleasant evening. Mrs H. Howard won the ladies’ first prize, and her sister, Miss Ethel Greensill, won the boobie, while Mr Fox won the gentlemen’s first, and Mr Kenny the booby. Mrs Fell wore a black skirt and striped black and white silk bodice trimmed with jet; Mrs Allen, black broche; Mrs Sealy, brown tweed with shot silk front and revers; Mrs Hayward, dark skirt and hail storm muslin blouse, with lace; Mrs H. Howard, navy skirt and pink silk blouse; Miss Allan (Wellington), black silk evening dress, with handsome lace; Miss Duygan (Wellington), dark skirt and white muslin blouse; Miss N. Allen, tweed skirt, pale green blouse; Miss Fell, black skirt, and pale blue satin bodice; Miss Hay, dark skirt, pink silk blouse; Miss Scott, fawn costume; Miss Anderson (Christchurch), dark skirt, pale blouse; Miss Mirrie Philpotts, navy skirt, and cream silk blouse; Miss Macintosh, dark skirt and striped blue blouse; Miss Greensill, muslin frock; Miss Ethel Greensill, dark skirt and white muslin blouse; Miss Howard, dark skirt and striped muslin blouse; Mrs E. Kenny (Nelson), dark skirt and pink muslin blouse; Miss E. Philpotts fawn frock. The gentlemen .were few and far between, but we made the best of those present. Messrs Rutherford, Fox, J. Greensill, Glasgow (Dunedin), E. Kenny, and Dr. Anderson. Supper of course was included in the programme, and was duly appreciated. Mrs Menteith, Miss Allan ,and Duygan, from Wellington, who have spent a month here, have sketched the scenery of Picton from all points of view, and are charmed with the place. They leave to return to Wellington

to-morrow.
